The small amount of time between Bad Juju buying Desura and then going down makes me wonder whether Linden sold them a sinking ship. Of course, if that was the case you'd have to wonder whether Bad Juju knew this and thought they could save it or whether they didn't do their research properly.

phaolo: Just wondering: what will happen to Desura's servers, now that all its users are trying to download all the games at once? O_o
Good question. I'm downloading my IR games which I believe to be served from the same location and I'm getting a good speed.

Friday's expected figures:

Sales: 3
Downloads: 23,562,869

It's probably not going to help ;(

Ok, time to save my games.
I finally bothered to check what I have there. Most of them are games I don't give a damn about, but I still redeemed the ones in Steam that had keys. Not that I'm gonna play them, but still.

Only three games I must download are the three Zojoi Sherlock Holmes games I got from their Shadowgate Kickstarter.

Luckily I had under 20 titles from there.

Pheace: The hell. Isn't this exactly why you're buying DRM-Free games? What's the point in that if then when you finally need it you're not going to be able to back it up because your library is too big?
I don't think it is about not really being able, but not caring enough to go through it. At least that Impaler guy that you also replied to, he never seemed like a kind of guy who cares about DRM anyway (hence, he probably doesn't also care if he lost all his games).

On the other hand, if you read other messages in this thread, several others are now downloading, or already downloaded, their Desure games. They apparently care enough. I don't have a Desure account, so I am unaffected.

To each his own, I do backup my DRM-free games, at least those that I want to keep. I have my DRM-free games backed up from various digital stores and not looking back to them (e.g. HumbleBundles (also the Android games), GamersGate, DotEmu, Strategy First etc.). From GOG I haven't yet downloaded everything (especially as I wanted to wait for the ongoing unbundling to finish), but looking forward to do it soon. I'll give e.g. that gogrepo utility a try. Not that I am expecting GOG to fold anytime soon, but still.

chadjenofsky: I was browsing some of the free games on Desura, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations to some good ones that I can download before the (possible) server shutdown.
avatar
budejovice: It's not quite a recommendation, but I played Sepia Tears recently.

EDIT: Desura users seemed to enjoy it. I didn't try for multiple endings, though I'm not sure there's more than one. Not many choices, it's very narrative.
Thanks! I've downloaded it.

Leroux: Funny, but actually not that surprising. The dev is probably just making sure that noone will buy the game on Desura, so that the money that should go to the dev doesn't end up being swallowed by a black hole. Desura has been unable to pay out devs even before the bankruptcy was announced.
The 'latest tweets' feed on http://www.desura.com/games/zigfrak includes this: '@Desura has got some balls to keep their storefront up during all of this.' It doesn't seem to be listed on https://twitter.com/zigfrak so maybe it was diplomatically deleted.

However, from https://twitter.com/zigfrak/status/601597821179940865 and https://twitter.com/zigfrak/status/601597960208584704 it seems the delisting plans precede the bankruptcy and aren't uniquely to do with Desura.

I wonder if Bad Juju would even be able to shut down the website in their current situation, maybe they aren't allowed to do aynthing of their own accord. It's also a complicated situation, because the interests of developers and previous customers are affected, too. It's probably the best solution for developers right now to follow suit and set their prices unreasonably high, so that even when customers still have access to their collections and the games are still displayed in the stores for everyone to check out, noone will spend any money there as long as it's unclear where it goes.

RoloTony: So, does this mean Bad Juju's recent statement was not true? I refer to the statement that the pay problems were only because of the lack of an automated payment system. The worst part of this is, all those developers are probably never going to get their money.
Well yes. But it's not that simple. The person who made that statement was under the impression that this really was the problem. They found out that it wasn't (and that they were out of a job) over Twitter when news of the bankruptcy broke.

Yeah, I feel bad for their PR manager. It really does seem she was telling the truth as far as she knew, seems like only the mysterious Tony knew what was actually happening.
*Phew* Just finished downloading all my games from Desura. Now to go through my bundle keys to dump all unredeemed in Desura key list thread. O.o

I guess I should consider myself lucky that I've only bought 5 Indie Royale bundles, so my Desura library is relatively tiny (only 25 that are actual downloads, and some of those are redundant because I also have DRM-free copies of them from Humble).

That'll teach me to try branching out and buying from other bundle sites, I suppose.

Edit: On the positive side, while reviewing my library to see what's worth saving I discovered I had an unredeemed Steam key for Slinki.

I bet I have close to 100 unredeemed bundles from various sites, I better start getting on that task....
Not entirely surprised, 90% of stuff they sold was indie junk that would make Steam greenlight and Early Access titles look AAA.
Looks like I have quite a few games on Groupees with only Desura keys.
