The Witcher 2 version 2.0 Coming to GOG.com on the 29th and we're celebrating!

The CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference brought some good news for the GOG community, among others we're permanently dropping the price of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and running a promo next week too!

The best RPG of 2011 is about to get even better, and we're doing a few things to colebrate. For one, we're dropping the price of The Witcher 2 permanently, starting right now. From now on, CD Projekt RED's award-winning game of 2011 is $39.99 USD! Of course if you live in UK, the Eurozone, or Australia, the price will also drop for you, respectively by £5.00, €10.00 and $10 AUD. It still means we're offering the 'Fair Price Package' to European and Australian customers to make up for the USD price difference. Also aside of today's price drop, next Thursday (September 29) when the highly anticipated "version 2.0" arrives, we'll launch a 25% off promo on The Witcher 2, which will make this awesome offer even better as you'll be able to grab the game for only $29.99 USD!

trusteft: Actually the STEAM version of Witcher 2 is 10 euros cheaper than the discounted version here.
Witcher 2 on GOG is at 39.99 EUROS, which is $54...
avatar
Psyringe: But buying Witcher 2 on GoG also gives you 16$ worth of GoG games, which more than make up for a 10 Euro difference.
It barely does, but the thing is what if I don't want to get $16 worth of extra games? I am buying Witcher 2 after all to play it. I rather save the money for other things, like food.

Anyway, this is pointless. As an offer, yes it is good. Price wise, not very fair.
66
where does it say $16 worth of games?
67
Really wondering whether to play 2.0 in dark mode or not. I don't enjoy annoying challenges, just good ones, if that difference makes any sense.

Of course the Steam version is supposed to be cheaper, after all you are not buying the game from Steam, merely renting it. Thus the prices are not directly comparable.

(here we go again...)

Directly under the Euro price, and the "add to cart" / "wishlist" links, there's a green box which I actually found hard to miss. This box tells you: "Since the EU price is almost $16 more than the price in USD, we’re giving you a $16 USD credit to spend on GOG.com."

This makes the game even cheaper than the one Steam, despite being DRM-free when you buy it here. Of course, this only applies if you actually are interested in two other games here at GoG, but if one isn't, I'm not sure what he/she would be doing here ...

Ah, okay. But then you have the cheaper (dollar) price already. :) The 16$ credit is to make up for the difference between the dollar and the euro price.

So far Steam description of 2.0 is the most comprehensive
Completely New, Extensive Tutorial System - The new tutorial helps players fully enjoy the game from the very beginning and systematically explains the depth of The Witcher 2’s combat and gameplay mechanics. It allows gamers to be gradually and smoothly immersed in the game world and Geralt’s adventures.

Special Dark Difficulty Setting - A new, intensely challenging difficulty setting that provides the ultimate challenge for players. On the Dark setting, The Witcher 2 is nearly as difficult as Insane, but allowing players to save the game. It also provides a completely new set of dark-themed gear with very high stats such as:

18 new equip-able items including
3 new sets of dark armor (light, medium, and heavy)
3 new sets of dark swords (3 silver, 3 steel)
Other Dark themes/elements in the game

Completely New Arena Mode - Infinitely re-playable and progressively more challenging, Arena lets you hone your combat style and techniques against all the different monster types from the game. Dispatch wave upon wave of progressively more difficult enemies, earning awards that you can use to upgrade abilities, weapons and armor, and to test alchemy. Hirelings can also assist you in battle for a price. Combat waves will continue infinitely until your character is defeated, when you’ll see a statistical summary of results. Players can share their results with their friends by uploading this summary to the forums or to Facebook. Arena Mode includes:

New location, with a dynamic, responsive audience reacting to the events
A new monster type, Werewolf
Waves of different opponents, looped with increasing levels of difficulty
3 different prizes to choose from in each wave
3 new characters (mage, knight, and dwarven fighter) that can serve as allies during clashes
A shopkeeper offering gear and enhancements
3 new GUI panels designed specifically for the mode
New dialogue
New background music
New Witcher Forum and Facebook integration

Technical Bliss - Version 2.0 includes all previous and new technical and gameplay enhancements such as:

40+ new technical and gameplay enhancements
100+ previous technical and gameplay fixes
All 9 previous DLC packs - Troll Trouble, Roche Commando Jacket, Ultimate Alchemy Suit, Ultimate Magical Suit, Ultimate Swordsman Suit, Finisher Pack, Mysterious Merchant, Barbers and Coiffeuses, A Sackfull of Fluff

The Witcher 2, in its most definitive version 2.0, will be available on the 29th of the September through automatic update for free, for all existing and new users (all new installations will update to version 2.0 automatically during game installation process).

Does anyone know a rough size that the update will be, (see if I have enough allowance to download before 7/10/2011)
77
Dammit, I didn't see this and literally have just bought the damn game :\

Could've got it now for £20.99 on Steam, but decided to go with Gog.com and give them my money directly at what I thought was going to be £24.99, but turned out to be £26.38. But I thought "sod it, they deserve the cash", but then I saw this news and find out it's going to be probably round about the Steam price after all...

Stung twice in quick succession...

I do wish at the very least they'd charge the price that's advertised on the page.

:(

can't wait!! one more day to go!! \m/

This is freakish... I already OWN each and every single game I bought at Gog.com up until now, but I did it to get the extra's, and the "all in one installers" that have all updates and expansions in them. Even The Witcher Enhanced Edition is on my shelf.

Still, I'm going to get it here too, together with The Witcher 2, and I did find some other games that really interest me, but I did never notice at the time they came out. This site rocks. After I buy my wishlist, I'll have enough games for the coming 10 years, at my pace :) (I started with Icewind Dale again, and will be playing through all the old infinity engine games before starting all the other ones....)

Now I'm just waiting for Neverwinter Nights 2+Expansions and Dragon Age+Awakenings (own both of them too, including the copy protection and DRM... blargh) become old enough to be posted at this site.

Do any of the more experienced GoG members know at which time (in central europe) the update is going to happen? As silly as it sounds, I may have to go to the hospital for about a week and I'd like to be able to buy TW2 for the 25% off price before I go. ;)
82
can somebody ban this guy already? lol

Every time he does this he gets banned. The problem is he makes/made multiple accounts and the GOG guys haven't taken the time to pre-emptively eliminate them.
84
Hmm. Maybe the Witcher 2 might go free for everyone for like 1 hour when the time hits 6,000,000. That would certainly get some press attention to the Witcher 2 2.0 release.

It was my idea if it happens. :)

I'm in a similar situatuion. Any ideas about the time this promo actually goes live? An answer in any time zone will do as I can obviously ajust for my time zone on my own. Thanks in advance if anyone knows :)

The Witcher never comes too soon?
87
Patch2.exe: 744Mo, just use the launcher.

Actually never mind that post seems Witcher 2 would run fine. :)
