=> Overview
Destiny Star Girlfriend is a Visual Novel about a student named Seiji, who through some coincidence gets himself mixed up in the life of a superhero girl named Yuuri.
And due to a certain turn of events, he soon finds out that he will be required to spend a rather lengthy period of time in close contact with her.
Yuuri is different from the usual heroines in dating sims, in that she has a rather significant character flaw - she is self-centered and full of herself to the point that she considers other people in her life to be mere tools for her to use, a role which the others (begrudgingly) accept.
While she is not sadistic or mean-spirited in any way, she certainly doesn't consider other people as equals.
However, our protagonist is not willing to put up with this treatment, and decides to playfully tease her every time she shows that side of hers, sometimes by going against her, other times by playing along in a somewhat sarcastic fashion.
This leads to many funny situations in which Yuuri gets flustered, embarrassed or otherwise surprised by Seiji's conduct, as she clearly hasn't experienced much pushback to the way she acts before he came into her life.
And if you play the game, you will find out how things turn out...
=> Storytelling
That said, there is a rather significant flaw in the storytelling of this game:
The story jumps around a lot, with time skips so frequent that they turn Destiny Star Girlfriend into more of a series of skits, rather than one coherent storyline.
It is coherent enough to understand what is happening, and in what sequence, but the time skips make it nearly impossible to build suspense, intrigue, or even much of a sense of connection to the characters.
For instance, there are multiple sections in the game in which Yuuri is expected to fight rather powerful foes in her role as a superhero, but both most of the leadup to the fight, as well as the fight itself are skipped, making it nigh impossible to feel drawn in by the turn of events.
These events unfold sort of like this:
Seiji: *Yuuri's next opponent is rather strong, I hope she is going to be okay*
[Literally the next scene]
Seiji: *It was a tough one, but she won the fight without much issue*
As a result of this rather lacking storytelling, I have to remove 2 stars.
=> Summary
The unusual personality of the heroine, and her interactions with the protagonist made for quite a lot of funny situations, which I really enjoyed.
However, the story itself feels rather disjointed, and frequent time skips make it difficult to build up any sort of emotion beyond the amusement you get from the banter between the heroine and the protagonist.
At a playtime of about 6.5 hours, I would say the game is only really worth a buy when on sale.
