While this is way more polished than Owlcat's previous two releases, neither of which could even be completed upon release, this is still very buggy and was clearly rushed.
Good news is that this is Owlcat, and they will continue to polish and fix things until the game is complete and virtually bug free, which is why i'd hold off until then.
Atm there lots of broken items and abilities, corrupt saves, crashes, missing text and the final two chapters are apparently a mess.
Still, this really is a great game and they appear to have hired some actual writers for this one, so there are no more cringy companions or nonsensical sidequests like their previous offerings.
Game has so much content to offer and as I hoped, with passage of time, I did not encounter any bugs I heard about from youtube reviewers.
Game is perfect for what it supposed to be, tactical role-play with so many options, weapons, fighting styles and insane amount of lore
It started good. The prologue and first 2 chapters are great and I thought that maybe it was the game that will make me like Warhammer, the same way they made me like Pathfinder with their previous games.
But no, chapter 3 is awfull and after that, the game have nothing interesting to offer. The story, companions and endings are boring. The setting is very limited, made to sell figurines and factions. The same as their fantasy counterpart, but with a sci-fi skin.
And it could have been worse : there weren't even space orks in it... I'm definitely going to skip their next Warhammer games. Hopefully they'll succeed in making me like The Expanse...
So after over 90 hours of gameplay, I feel like I can give my honest opinion.
+ The setting. If you are a fan of 40k this is an unmissable experience. The game does its utmost to immerse you into the 42nd millennium (This game happens after cicatrix maledictum so yes it is the 42nd). The characters make sense. Some you will like, others you will annoy, others you will hate but all of them have a place in 40k. If you are not familiar with 40k there are handy notes to give you context but be forewarned, treachery abounds and the "good solution" is not always the correct solution.
+ Story. It is really good. Can't say too much or get into details without spoiling it so this section will be short. Just don't expect deep romances
+ Turn-based combat. If you have played the other 2 Owlcat games (Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous) you know people either moded turn-based combat or it was implemented post-launch. Not the case in Rogue Trader, we get to enjoy Turn-based strategy from the start.
+ Voice acting. The voice lines for all characters are gold. None of them feel out of place and the pronunciation is really good even for terms unique to 40k. The only bad aspect is that there isn't any more of it.
- Bugs. In the technical sense, I haven't noticed that many bugs, but some of them are noticeable, from passive bonuses from characters that are not active party members remaining and having extra turns when they should not to some missing text or events shown out of order. If you have low tolerance for bugs wait a while until the game gets patched.
- Poorly explained combat system. The game doesn't teach you about the combat system and the description of some abilities is up to interpretation. Mercifully the game lets you respec on your void ship so you are never really locked into a bad decision (build-wise)
- Is easy to break the game. Maybe due to some of the bugs explained earlier but 2 companions break the game in half, even at Daring.
Very well written characters, interesting and deep story, side missions are delight to do. Your retinue will grow close to your heart as well as your domain in ruins.
