Under the piles of bugs we can guess a good game. Being an absolute fan of the Warhammer 40000 universe, what a joy to see it so well adapted into a well-written cRPG.
Unfortunately, after a good ten hours of play, an interface bug completely blocked me.
Worse, this bug affects all my backups and no solution, even a reinstallation changes nothing.
An opinion that will evolve if these problems are quickly corrected but as it stands, playing this game means taking the risk of getting stuck randomly after hours of play...
There are plenty of devs that don't release games that are half finished. Entire build paths are fundamentally broken because half the skills in the game simply do not work. Don't support this, and find one of the plethora of other games that are competent enough to release the game in a playable state.
only gripe was when i struggled at first figuring out how to level up but that was admittedly me being a bit of a doofus lmao. Other than that this is a very solid CRPG. Not crazy about the day one DLC though. If you can make optional day 1 DLC then theres no excuse to not put it in the core game.
Yes, the combat is a bit bland if you're normal or less (and there's way too much of it)
Yes, the game is currently a bit janky (though less than either Kingmaker or WotR on release, more on par with BG3)
But
This is a true love letter to the WH40k universe, with solid writing and good reactivity (though mostly story wise), that truly understands the position your character is in and makes you feel it. Dialogue options are usually both really cool and really funny, and impactful enough that you'd want to consider them for more than a few seconds.
The game's art direction is splendid, the music rocks and when it's not another horde of trash mobs, the fights can be a blast, allowing for truly idiotic but satisfying combos (Argenta with a las sniper murdering 7 dudes in a single turn was truly a moment of glory, and that was in chapter 1!)
I'm not sure about build variety, especially compared to pathfinder, with this new somewhat freeform system, and leveling up is a fairly painful process.
And the warp meter is fun, a lot.
I own the steam version of this particular title and..
Especially once you hit act and advanced archetype the game ABSOLUTELY FALLS INTO SHAMBLES.
Absolutely NOTHING works after Act 1 and base archetypes - sometimes not even those.
I genuinely have no idea what game the reviewers were playing but its not this one.
Here is a very very very shortened list of bugs ive encountered:
Grand strategist archetype - rectangular zones are completely broken. Placement depends on character position, you cant rotate them, when you reload mid combat the zone can change its rotation making half your party suddenly stand outside of it. The talent that gives -1AP to the first attack inside a certain zone doesnt work at all on the turn it is placed. Random things can happen when you reenter zones.
Assassin: The acumen AP refund doesnt work on the elusive ability at all.
Warrior: Endure doesnt give the correct amount of deflection
Reloading in combat in general breaks everything. Ive used Once per combat abiltiies 3 times in 1 turn after reloading. ive seen AP just randomly disappear after reloading.
Master Tactician: The damage buff from the base archetype feature doesnt disappear when used for navigator powers allowing it to stack perpetually and reach ridiculous numbers.
Vanguard: Beacon stacks dont work properly whatsoever.
Bounty Hunter: Ive seen melee enemies get hit by the immobilize trap and literally teleport to their target immediately afterwards
AND SOO SOOO MANY MORE
Its not limited to combat either. In Act 2 on Janus - immediately taking the governour under arrest completely breaks off a huge chunk of dialogue that is simply completely missing.
The impenetrable darkness mini story on 1 world says it gives you a reward in dialogue but nothing shows up.
Do yourself a huge favour and just skip this game for at least 1 year.
It is soooo broken.
