Great game
This explains so much about the events in the Witcher world. I recommend this to everyone. It is an awesome game, thank you GOG.com and CDProjectRed.

The best $10 I've ever spent. I've bought many of the RPG titles from GOG and this is bar far the best. I'm going to buy the second instalment today!

Shallow RPG mechanics, but a great game
I'm not going to make this long, so I'll get straight to the main points: The Witcher is not a deep role-playing game as far as game mechanics are concerned. Character progression is meh, combat is passable but nothing to write home about, and the choices are mostly inconsequential (something CDP were aware of it seems, as they made amends in TW2). So what's left? Well, a great setting with interesting characters, a fascinating game world, and overall a fun adventure. And absolutely incredible atmosphere. The combination of setting, art style, graphics and sound come together in such a harmonious way, precious few games can replicate the atmosphere of The Witcher. And for that alone it's worth playing.

Great world, not so great RPG system
In my view the Witcher series are action adventures being sold as RPGs. but RPG systems by their very nature and roots are strategic games, not reflex action games. Limited armor, a handful of abilities that resemble spell casting and an inventory only a madman would say is good- the system unscoring the game is pretty rough. it is the characters and world that carry this game,and not much else--
