Why does it get 2 stars?
Pathfinder Kingmaker is a cool idea with several annoying quirks.
Why didn't I like it:
Crits were out of control on the regular difficulty but turning it down meant I no longer even got hurt. From one shot kills to walking away from each combat like I was on God mode.
It just FELT strange. I was a huge fan of Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate. This feels like a pale comparison. I'm guessing you have to play a LOT more before you become the king or whatever and have the opportunity to delve into what makes this title unique.
All in all, if you're a fan of these types of games or in desperate need of some nostalgia, this is for you. If you love Pathfinder the tabletop, also for you.
I am not looking for nostalgia and am ambivalent toward Pathfinder so I walked away.
Definitely give it a try if you've got some patience and time. It looks to be a rewarding experience for you if so.
Do you want to make a realistic RPG? Then why do my characters miss the enemy twice as many at close range with melee weapons? Your game is a piece of shit, sorry.
I'm not talking about the fact that in this rubbish called the game there is no adequate training, absolutely nothing is clear.
The balance problems as mentioned in many other reviews are real. Unavoidable giants in random encounters on the road executing your level 2 squad in a single turn and forcing reload are a thing. You can read about it in other reviews at length. The thing that is not written much about however is how much SJW propaganda is present in this game. If you are looking for a fantasy game to escape reality - this is not it, you will be attacked by real world ideological agendas right from the start.
It begins with the exclusive use of "her" pronoun in all character creation screens and goes downhill from here. I started with Amiri, Valerie and Jaethal in my initial team. Amiri is a stronk feminist bitch with anger problems, I mean anger problems like "you suggest women cannot be stronk??" If you just try to talk to her she lashes out at you unprovoked like a hardened well trained feminist activist. Because sure, it is quite normal for women to wield swords that weigh at least 50 kg (in fact it is mentioned that it was a sword used by a giant). The source of her anger problems is that men in her tribe dared to suggest she should stay at home and occupy herself with traditional female activities but hey, she is stronk and she can fight and she will take no shit from anyone. But why would men in her tribe suggest such a thing? Is it maybe because women in real world are indeed too weak to engage in any form of traditional male activities? So is this a real world or a fantasy world? Or is it just a fantasy setting used to bash any real world ideas about men an women differences? Next comes beautiful Valerie who is ready to slap you if you mention it. Another stronk woman in a full suit of plate armor with tower shield and male hair cut. Linzi is halfling who disliked the idea she could actually give birth to children and became adventurer and Jaethal is kind of cool but also another role model for women as a former judge. Enjoy you SJW pill.
Just purchased the game and played for about 2 hours, game feels very solid, voice acting is top notch and what I've seen so far in the storyline is pretty good. controls are very responsive and the spells and graphics are nicely done. Now that being said this game as by far the worst character customization in terms of hairstyles, colours and faces..... really triggers me that i cant for the love of god make my character look like the characters in the portraits especially the one that is the druid holding the spear. This is a common issue but seeing this pissed me off since its worse then divinity original sin 2s and that's saying something. when people make their characters to match the portraits they do it for the immersion but here in this game that's lost. for that i had to give this 1 star
