juat a terrible execution. the upgrades become extraordinarily expensive and the credits don't roll over into the next play throgh. so if you have half of what you need you still have 0. also weapons are lackluster.
Hands down the best game I've played in these last couple years.
Gorgeous graphics (yet still easy to run even on non top-end GPUs), fun and fast gameplay, it never gets boring and it always makes you want to play new runs to try to improve yourself.
10/10 would buy again, definitely worth downloading.
Everspace has the best flying experience since Descent for me. It has the same truly 3D, fluent and physical feeling and the shooting feels both skillful and hectic in a good way. Everspace controls really nicely using mouse and keyboard, I haven't missed using a stick at all (even though I have one sitting right here).
The game is simple, thanks to simplifying design choices like not requiring special weapons for mining, providing a single shop interface for trades, a straightforward looting mechanism, etc. That's good, but also a bit repetitive after many runs. I realise this is a roguelike and some repetition is to be expected, but a good roguelike allows the player to more quickly advance to the hard parts, where Everspace makes you go through the motions of the first one or two sectors over and over, without really capitalising on progress or introducing worthwhile mechanisms to move ahead quicker.
The selection of ships and the fact that they don't really stand apart is a bit meager too. I felt little need to leave the ship I started out in, since it's actually pretty good. And unlocking the rest felt like more of a chore than an achievement. But the upgrades and mechanism for progression of the ship are original and the progress, though small, is noticeable.
I only played with Encounters. I imagine the game would be a bit empty without them. In fact, I think it's still pretty light on content other than space fights. But if space fights are your thing, you could do worse than Everspace.
Is a fun rogue-like but it still have a sense of progression (you can spend upgrades after you doing but not during your jouney) and a story that isn't that bad. The problem of many rogue-like games is the reliance on chances (%) for something to happen like you hitting an enemy ship or dodging a shot, which can cause players to get frustated. In everspace if you die is mostly because you did something wrong or were just unlucky in the sense you : didn't got good weapons or the game just decided to throw a fricking cruiser to ruin your day. It can be fun without casuing too much frustation to the player.
The things I didn't like: No radar. There are indicators for enemies for it would be nice to have a radar that indicates if there's an object (such as an asteroid) near you and inform you the distance and direction. It seems stupid that humanity developed ships without any sort of radar.
Only 4 ships to play: I wish there were more or there were the option to go frankeinstein mode an create your own ship.
Overall not a bad game but I do think it's worth to wait to get it on sale + DLC, just don't buy the deluxe edition as it only adds soundtrack + wallpapers (ripoff)
Everspace has me hooked. The game is beautiful and the gameplay is so smooth. I successfully completed my 5th run (on easy) so it is definately accessible in its current state. I am looking forward to tackling normal because I have died pretty early in the few normal runs I attempted so I know there is still plenty of challenge to be had.
