Much more fun than I expected

Everspace is hard to learn and hard to master. The basic instructions from your AI are far away from sufficiant. But once you learn how to dodge you will be able to even succeed against a Corvette, some say you can do it without a scratch - but I'm not good enough to reproduce. You can upgrade your ship before each run. The amount of credits available depends on your previous run, so keep an eye on that. In the beginning you don't gain a lot, but later you can extract about 20k per run, and the better you perform the more you might aquire. When you die, your run ends and you only keep the perks and the Credits you had left before death. There also is a sotry, but I wasn't able to see alot about it yet. It seems to be interesting though, and I've a wild guess how it might conclude. You will learn parts of the story by continuing to a higher chapter and some encounters you've had will affect the story in some way. An additional factor that makes Everspace interesting are the various hazards that occur, each with different effects on you. Be cautious. So I've already had some fun and probably will have futer fun time with this game. Enjoy it!

Surprisingly fun

I gotta admit, it's fun. For those people who expect winning to be handed to them in a pretty package...they hate this game. Why? Because it's hard. REALLY hard. But, unlike other games...dying doesn't make you start over...well...sort of. Yeah, you do start over, but you get to use the cash you collected to upgrade your ship(s) before you head out again. Then, you get a little better at piloting, and your ship is a bit more durable, etc...and it's a bit more fun...and so on. If you can't handle losing, then just give up now because you a'ready can't handle this. For everyone else, this game is awesome. If I were to boil it down into a simple description, I would say it is like a throwback to the old arcade-style games where it is all about the action...but with a BUNCH of extra perks added in to make it even more interesting. And of course, the visuals are amazing. I have been enjoying it so much that I went ahead and bought the "Encounters" DLC. I meant to play for an hour or so...I just realized I have been at it for about 11 hours. In short, if you like the old Privateer space game (or similar games to it) and you liked it mainly for the space battles (who doesn't), then you will enjoy this game.

A good "comfort" game

Pretty visuals, a trivial, but present story, decent handling on the ship and guns, a decent arsenal on consumables and active/passive devices... It's not perfect, but it's a very good game for when you don't want to get invested in a long RPG and simply want to kill some baddies and get a sense of progression. With a bit of practice you start reliably winning the game (won my 12-th playthrough and every game since). A single run will cost you 2-2,5h if you absolutely need to explore each sector and kill every enemy, probably 30-ish minutes if you get the equipment you need, then rush for the finish line. Also a quick tip: play scout with the cloaking device loadout, it's awesome.

fun, for the most part

the first thing you have to understand about this title is that it is a rogue-like first and a space dogfighter second the game begins much like any other in the genre by setting an unachievable goal and telling you to complete it; which can be quite daunting at first as you are never quite told how far away it is and start off in a rather under equipped state. As you throw yourself at the wall repeatedly however, you will inch closer and closer to the end goal by acquiring perks, finding blueprints that make advanced gear progressivley more attainable, and ultimatley learning the flow and feel of the game, as well as what it wants and expects of you. it is in this inching closer that towards an ultimate goal that the game finds it's true sweet spot for those who're truly patient. the game's core progress mechanics themselves are similarly fun; though the flying mechanics are rather fun too, with reasonably achievable dogfights to be had at nearly every stage of the game. that said, the gameplay is somewhat forgiving, I personally would have liked less excessive inertial dampening and less of a v-tol esque flight style, but I understand that you can't have everything. ultimately it's just unreserved fun trying to reach the end goal. unfortunatley when you do reach it, the game becomes decidely less fun; rather than ending the game straight away upon reaching your goal, the story (which I won't spoil beyond this little tipbit) challenges you to redo the entire run potentially up to eight more times (hough it can be done in 3 or 4 if you know what you are doing) as fun as it is trying to do this the first time, it is decidely less interesting on successive attempts as your over powered build by this point renders the game from a challenge into a chore. as not so fun as this section is however, I find myself forgiving it, simply because of how well paced the initial run is, and for that run alone, I recommend the game

Great rogue-like with potential for more

I love rogue-likes, and I love Everspace. Although buying the DLC "Encounters" is mandatory, seriously just get it along with the base game. The gameplay is fast-paced the dogfights are fun, the visuals are stunning, I love the sarcastic and cynical board-computer HIVE. The story is meh ,but who palys a rogue-like for the story anyways? It's overall a great game, although there are some aspects with room for improvement. This game could use more weapons and ship designs. Also the way progression is in this game is not as fulfilling as it could be. The only ressource that really matters overall are credits. Everything else is lost on death and just useful for the current run. It can feel like a shore to fly around collecting all these ressources to hopefully craft an upgrade when it can be lost all in an unlucky encounter. Where this game shines though are the fights. if the devs make another DLC which adds more weapons and ships and somewhat rework the whole progression system to make collected ressoruces a bit more valuable this would be a solid 5/5
