A Work in Progress

Played this game on GeForce Now when I had a 660 TI with few bugs (summer 2021). I got a 3060 TI and played it locally in January 2022 there were fewer bugs. Since then CDPR has been pushing quite a few patches to greatly increase the quality of the game (balance, better driving, performance). They haven't given up which is great since the game had a pretty bad start. Anyways I'm on my fourth play through and I'll probably get a fifth in after the new expansion drops.

Disappointing

Disappointment is the word I'd use to describe this game. I've basically waited two years before buying the game giving the developers enough time to fix what was initially wrong with the game. And unfortunately from what I can tell they failed. Cyberpunk 2077 is a buggy mess. I've encountered problems with the graphics, game crashes and massive performance issues. Ray tracing is completely pointless in this game as even as with an RTX 3080 and equally powerful hardware in the rest of the setup the FPS drops to completely unplayable levels (10fps and lower). I had to disable ray tracing completely to get usable performance and even then after some time the game performance drops sharply when I open the map and inventory for no reason. Driving cars and motorcycles in this game is painful. I think that the person who designed this has never driven a car before or handled motorcycles. Also to me the game looks ugly. It's not that the graphics are bad. But the design is just ugly. The characters are mostly ugly, the cars are mostly ugly and especially the city is ugly. This is especially a problem when you consider that there is also some sexual content in the game. How can I get into this stuff when I think the characters involved are ugly? Everyone also seems to be on some kind of fetish trip. Also outside of the city being ugly it's not actually designed so that I'd believe it to be an actual city. Everything just feels misplaced and tinkered together to somehow make it fit. Street design is horrible. If this was an actual real place, traffic would be a nightmare and you'd have LOTS of traffic accidents. The main story line is overall pretty short with a disappointing ending. About 15% of the game is the main story. 30% is side missions. And about 55% are gigs which are simply "place X is filled with enemies." => neutralize someone/get item/upload virus". Braindance functionality is barely used (wasted). Also the game teases a lot of things but doesn't deliver.

Worth checking out

The game's had many patches and bug fixes, to the point where I'd say it's worth playing. It's still got issues, but there's enough good stuff in the game to have fun. if you're on the fence, wait for a sale.

epic characters ,great story,few bugs

tl;dr, the game is a bit buggy sometimes, the city feels a bit empty, the engine isn't made for driving around too fast. But the storytelling of this game makes up for everything. The characters are well made, voiceacting is spot on and it feels quite dynamic. The gameplay it self has many aspects of it from gunplay, melee fighting or stealthy netrunning. Only showstopping bug was 1 sidequest not loading. At first glance when i started i was a bit afraid of the bugs. Few floating items, cars spawning out of nowhere... it got my a bit sceptical. Once into the game the first characters you encounter are quite interesting. Very convincing, they have this vivid feel about them. With the effort they put in the voiceacting and the dialog choices you get it really feels like a proper RPG. The gameplay is not too bad. You have different types of game you want to play and build a character as you see fit. So you can specialize in assaultrifles, pistols, hand-to-hand combat or just try to avoid direct violence. It's one of these skyrim kind of things where your ambition is to be a proper warrior but you end up as a stealth archer again. The city doesn't feel that much alive as it should be, the pedestrians are a bit clunky and if you go too fast through town the streets will be empty as the engine doesn't seem to handle it properly. The handling of the vehicles isn't that great either so the whole open world aspect does get a bit lost. It's nothing like GTA where you just cruise around for fun and enjoy the atmosphere. The city is itself is well made. Its vast and well designed. Too bad you just dont drive around for fun because of the bad handling of the cars and the emptyness of the streets. So if you can look past the bugs and appreciate a good story with well made characters. Definitely a recommandation.
