not what i was looking for

my fault, did not want another roguelike/lite whatever :P i got enough of that already. probably a charming game, but i already have a game that does everything displayed in a better way. this seems to be a pixel art top down dark soul like. if you like that sort of thing, the moment when i immediately deinstalled was when i saw this knight mob telegraphing his spear and i was ready to dodge the projectile - just to be killed by an instant hit. the other ranged capable enemies had moving projectiles, the player shoots a fast projectile with his bow. so somebody throwing a trident shoots faster then my bow :P also not much is explained in the game letting you figure it out. not a game for me. i enjoy to aquire skill that does not involve me dying through the experience. lots of players do enjoy these kind of games tho. if you are one of that type, you might want to consider giving this game a chance.

unfinished and broken

companion ai was so broken when i played - was just too much bother for not enough entertainment. i believe the stories must be amazing if one can stomach the bugs - i could not sadly. if this would get a revised release that takes care of the issues i'd love to play.

nice pictures

... but thats it - the sound is nice enough the music is nice enough ... its one of those formula games which can not appeal to me. right from the start it feels like one of those browser "mmo" games that confuse you with alot of resources at the start to make you believe the game has depth when in reality its just more of the same stuff. the "tutorial" is so boring i am uninstalling the game. if learning the game makes me yawn whats the point of playing the game?

in my mind this particular story is alot more horrifying, but this adaptation is a wonderful treat, which earned my appreciation.

awesome concept - amazing game for some,

and just annoying for most. The art and style and animations are nice, the music is amazing and projects this sense of dramatic urgency. The game is mean to you. Just so you know beforehand if you do not like it - make a conscious decision for yourself with this game. Even tho everything is single player your defeats and failures are shown forever in the campaign, the steps you took to learn the game are marked as your personal failures visible in the user interface. The empire research is deliberately set up so you will fail missions if you do not have the appropriate units, or you are comfy with the micromanagement and already are a pro at the game. The world and setting is steampunk zombie apocalypse ... you'd think nothing can go wrong with this backing, but then they had to let their egos ride design choices...

loved the idea,

but just not fun. The game tries to be realistic, but if i want a real zombie survival game, i play real life. If your life is too happy for some reason and you like to suffer in a game - this is for you. The game tries to be a simulation so much it stops being a game for me. 2 stars for more or less solid engine and innovative user interface. the community also is one of those "hardcore" echochambers, in which you are only allowed to have specific oppinions.

good buy if you like action rpg grind

very streamlined game that is a rogue like dungeon crawler with constant permanent progression. the classes feel all different and fun even to someone like me who just sticks with one character or one class for almost all other games. even if one dislikes rogue like games like me, this is a pleasant constant fun. even if i die, i always progress further get my characters and look forward to dive right back in. the game starts off very simple and easy to understand, but branches out into good complexity of gear setups you choose for each different class. it does not feel like a story is missing, due to the simplicity of the setting of the game. you move with wsad and it just feels right for any action rpg and i wish all games of that genre would offer this control. i did not know how much i needed this game to take a way the cloud over my judgement. so far no other action rpg i played valued my game time as much as heroes of hammerwatch. maybe other gamers feel like me - mistreated by constant disappointing grinds and shallow design traps allowing broken metas due to bloated clunky implemented complexity. if you come to like heroes of hammerwatch, you will most definately always be able to come back to it and enjoy the honestly endless grind of a game which values every moment you play.

too random with too many things - diletant game design lacking streamlined rules. too many attributes and too many cross dependancies for skills. the economy "system" tries to exist ... after just a short while playing the game after you have been sucked into the nostalgia curious about exploring the world and gotten past the neglectable outdated graphics or simple core combat gameplay (its really fine not everything has to require you to be a tactical mastermind) - after this short while of joy the game actively just punishes you for playing attacks happen at any longer rest (that is needed) the game systems slowly drain you of all resoruces and joy you had throwing literal curses and diseases at you. its free - everyone should play it to see whats going wrong and the mob grind is simple fun. this is one of those games that would deserve a total remaster and refinement release. is book 2 and 3 better? dont know - im actually hesitant to try after i played book 1 for a bit and i wont torture myself to finish it.
