Another Obsidian RPG that tries to be Baldur's Gate 1. The story is OK. You are the bad guys. But the choice to make 2 factions within the bad boyz army is confusing. It makes little sense (you have the Dom Toretto family and the peasant army that is about overwhelming with numbers). So instead of being evil and cruelly taking over, you get to choose between Family army and Peasant army. Repeatedly. Over... and over. Combat is the usual. No improvements in the decades since BG, IWD etc. I would avoid this one. It is truly mediocre.

Tried the demo on Steam and was hooked. The game is a pleasant surprise. It reminds me of Arx Fatalis. Tons of detail, a little rough around the edges. The world is definitely dark fantasy which is an awesome setting. I personally think that is why I enjoy the game so much. Outside of souls like games there aren't a ton of dark fantasy games. The world draws you in. There is so much to explore and get lost wandering around. The story is interesting and lots of the side quests are pretty decent and have self contained events that you want to see play out. Combat is fun. I like the relatively forgiving parry timing. I love how your skills constantly work so the more you do something like running or sneaking, those skills increase. I have always enjoyed the more realistic approach. In addtion there are multiple skill trees that give you a wide degree to level and grow your character that way you want. Music is stellar. Visuals are OK. Nothing top notch but there are some nice environments. Characters look decent. Lots of people are saying it is like Skyrim. These types of games existed long before that. IMO Arx Fatalis and the original Gothic games are good comparators. Highly, higly recommend trying the demo on Steam. It gives you a really good sample to try. I took my time and explored the initial areas as much as possible and knew I would enjoy the full game. Keep in mind this is NOT a AAA game. It is an absolutely aweomse AA game that easily holds it's own against similar types. Easily recommend this at full price and most definitely at sale pricing. FYI: Saves from the Steam demo work with the GoG version.

Typical Obsidian RPG. Gameplay wise it's all the same with the exception you can modify/craft spells. It's a pretty cool feature. You are supposed to be the bad guys but the entire premise for your character being involved to the extent they are is totally forced. I think it could have been integrated much better. This also leads to the goofy morale system. There are 2 factions within the "bad guys" army. You work with both so you constantly have to side with one or the other. The problem is it's simply too black and white. One group is a bunch if idiot peasents who don't care about their own, willing to infight to be the leader. The other is supposedly this well trained elite group that is all about family (think Dominic Toretto in Fast and Furious). The two sides within the whole is kind of stupid but obviously it was implemented to force the choices. The premise of being the evil side is cool. The system and factions they went with is just not great. I don't care about two differing factions that are supposed to be on the same side. I want to focus on overthrowing the resistance. Unfortunately that is put to the side and you get this instead. I'm doubting I will finish the game as the story is decent but the above mentioned problems really drag this game down for me. I simply don't care about two factions, nevermind how stupid of a concept it is for an overlord to encourage within their army. Combat is typical. It's the same old which isn't a bad thing but let's be honest, we have been playing this type of combat since the original Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc. After 26 years we need some innovation.

Tried the game. Tutorial was bugged. Started a free roam game. Can't even run down villagers on my horse. If the devs can't even bother to ensure the tutorial works properly, I am not bothering with their game. From the reviews I was expecting a lot more from this.

I tried playing SF1 and due to the age could't get it to run properly. Moving on to the 2nd game, this is my first SF experience. It has some Warcraft 3 vibes. Even the visuals are very Warcraft. Overall the game is fun enough but it is also nothing special or original. I find the camera is too close at any amount of zoom. The pathfinding is really bad, characters will get stuck, or walk straight through an enemy base. The story and look seems almost childish to me. As if the game is for children. The characters wave their arms around during conversations (it is actually hilarious if you watch the random movemetns that repeat) and they speak very dramatically. I don't think it is a bad game or a great game. It is fun enough. Don't expect a deep, original story. The RPG elements are super basic but I actually like that. There isn't some massive skill tree, you get new items fairly consistently without it becoming a burden.

Mafia 1 is a top all time game for me. Loved that when it orignally released. Mafia 2 was very good as well. SPOILERS Mafia 3... It's got some good but a lot of bad. Setting is unique for a video game. The story starts interesting. I lost interest though once you decide to take over the city as revenge lol. After being double crossed, which was a heck of start to a game, I was like let's goooo. Revenge time. But Clay wants revenge by taking over. It is so cheesy and what starts off strong, fizzles out instantly. Now you start the grind. M3 went the route of mini map, grocery list, go here - go there style gameplay. It is incredibly tedious. It also makes little sense. You will enter an enemy zone, kill everyone, leave, and within 3 minutes have to go back, the enemies are replaced and you go through it all again. It is some of the dumbest gameplay I have honestly seen. The visuals are great. Music is awesome using licensed hits from the era. Another reivew mentioned this game reminded them of The Godfather video game and I completely agree. I highly doubt I'll finish it. Mafia 1 and 2 need a replay and they are better games.

I am at 65 hours currently and have the intention of finishing the game. The story is ok. There are some very well written quests and dialogue. Lot s of lore if you are the type to read everything as I am. My issue is the combat inconsistency. The game starts fine. But at this stage things are either way too easy or way too difficult. It does a terrible job scaling enemies. I travelled to a few quests only to be absolutely merced so I loaded a previous save and knew I better avoid them for now. Moving to another area, there is a notice I am at a higher level and can increase the difficulty for a challenge. I do that, and again get completely smacked down. So I have no choice but to reload AGAIN, choose not to take the higher diffculty, and just saunter through the easy enemies. It is a shame because the game is great otherwise.
