Pros: Great acting. You really feel like your a member of french resistance. The game requires you to play smarter and more stealthy. The city starts as black and white, dull and dismal. As you complete main and side quest, you see a blast a color spread through city area. The cars and music are period specific which adds so much to the immersion. Like any songs, some you'll hate, some are average, some are great. One sung all in frenc,h can really lift you spirits. You get better and better equipment. There is nothing more fun than sneaking between two tank guards, planting a bomb, sneak around a corner, and boom. Sneaking up to a Nazi, stabbing them in the back and calmly walking away. Two in a row is more fun. Climbing up buildings and intro military facilities requires you really think strategically. Watch you alarm rating, you will get overwhelmed quickly. Clear as many towers as you can. It makes escaping easier. Overall, the super hot, smart, and skilled British agent is so much fun to interact with, along with all the others. The company was canceled before the game could get some heat going. Cons: When you blow up bridges, the cut scene doesn't play, leaving an intact bridge over a broken one. The climbing down buildings keyboard makes you fall nearly constantly. The sky boundaries can be corrupted. The stealth function, you put on a Nazi's uniform, is terrible and worthless. If you fix the 'ai.cfg' file, it plays much better. The civilian AI is average, needing more common sense. Link: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/saboteur_1_design_improvements
Negetives: skyrim hold down to cast most spells. This one should have been remove. One click casting. Positives: deep engrossing realist characters, The witcher style morality. Story is not a happy ending, but that's ok. One path leads to escape with your warrior lady friend. Great landscapes and dungeons. Leveling requires lots of money and experience. Story is deeply involving, the character are people might meet in the real world. I did every quest in the whole game, but the knowledge quest, needed 4 more. **** and 1/2 stars.
In development review, the overall game is amazing and always improving. User Interface: Everything is right where you need it, when you need it. Graphics: At top level, you feel like your in a real ship traveling from star system to star system exploring, trading, mining, etc. It feels like a real ship board user interface. Movement: Warping from star system to star system is simple. Using sub-light engines, automatic navigation is simple. Missions: A wide variety of missions. Skill development: Not to hard or easy, Enemies: At one below genus skill, they are a real challenge. Even if you have great shields and armor, loaded with tons of firepower, and large fleet, you will be running FREQUENTLY! Ship Design Interface: It's simple. You can let you creativity and sci-fi knowledge express itself. More features... Cons: At sub-light, manual movement is only left, right, speed up/down. You have to combine automatic with manual movement. This gets really gets in the way of placing construction platforms. It needs another axis of rotation. Missions need more variety in some way. Steal and kill pilot could be just steal back items. Burglar drones move to ship steal and return repeating. What about ship security? Construction weapon platforms, they need more variety. The other in game editors need some work. The ship editor needs some small improvements. The campaign, I can't quite figure it out.
In a normal solar system without earth's moon, I created two earths on opposite sides of the solar system. Stunned, it was stable! At first, I thought they were passing each other. It's far more interesting! Earth B catches up to Earth A then slows down until it's on the other side of the system. Then, speeds up until the process repeats every several 100 years. I created an earth orbiting in the habitable zone of binary stars orbiting around a barycenter. I did all the stuff you need to do, including balancing momentum on all three objects. The first results were failures as expected, but because didn't do the above things. After 100 years, the star system is stable. The stars have variable speeds and orbit in this weird way I'd never seen before. The planet orbit is stable and temperatures are from -271C to 114C. Even using stabilize temperature, it has 94% chance for life. The GUI needs better recording of stats like distance between stars and speeds, etc.
In this depressed economy, the newest video cards run on average $1500 on all variants?? At nvidia website, there is a rtx 3060 that is $329, even that is high. I will ONLY buy the newest video card at at about $225. Here's a thought make, MAKE YOUR VIDEO CARDS AFFORD FOR SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE UPPER CLASS!
PRO: Note, I've never played the previous games. Your at the center of the movie. Thrilling pulse pounding action, some great acting, and an engrossing origin story. Smart AI that challenges your short, medium, and long range tactics. Quick Time Events require precise timing to stay alive. A realistic 3D environment and physics. Overall, a fantastic FPS game that's lots of fun. CON: Even in easy mode, it's really hard mode. The quick time events can get really annoying as you get killed over and over again. The timing in easy mode is very tight. I saw no difference in gameplay between easy and normal mode. There are some problems in the shanty town. Where if you retreat to get a better tactical position, you kill all the enemies. Then return to the same area, enemies have respawned. You can do this over and over again without ever leaving the area. Forcing you to fight on their terms, not yours to get past this point. If you set the toggle walk in gameplay settings, it's badly timed. So, it's a constant problem trying to get it on/off. It's looses a full star, because of these gameplay issues. These bugs and design flaws need to be fixed.
NOTE: I bought the DVD since unlike the time travel games at the time had no DRM-MALWARE (required internet access to use and/or activate which hackers then use for easier access to your system). All the games compared to I can't see any relation to it. Other than some having the time-travel label. It's completely different from any of them. The characters are well acted and engrossing. The story is engrossing from beginning to the end. All the cutscenes, notes, and flashbacks slowly give it to you, a piece at a time. It's high-powered action forces you to play smart. There are huge number of ways to solve tactical problems. The weapons are diverse enough to suit any playing style. The TMD adds a whole new level tactical gameplay. Negative: The graphics are average, screen resolution is low and has average texture quality. They need to modernized. Their are times where dialog repeats when you take too much time to do something. It's really annoying. Overall, this is a must have for any RPG gamer!
The game has steep learning curve, many basic to veteran skills. Once to you learn the basics, it's a great space adventure. I didn't finish the main mission. What I did play was very challenging. I plan to come back later. Playing the free trader starts, I played it until I built three stations and huge fleet of ships. After this learning experience, I started over. Playing another free trade start, I now have a huge trading fleet, 5+ warships, and fighter squadrons. I just finished my second space station. Note, you can automate most of running a station. You have a lot of freedom to do any missions and trading offers. You can destroy or capture ships. The battles can range from epic to mundane. You have to learn different tactics for different ships. Capturing a ship requires different tactics from just destroying it. Different ships require different tactics. You have wide variety of different weapons on your own ship. If you have warships following you, you will need to use different tactics. If you going against more than one ship at time and/or fighters, it gets even more complex. YOU WILL get blown up many times over in the learning process. When you get to a personal master skill level, you will be able to take on two warships with beam weapons at once. I've taken on two Olmekron warships with two warships supporting me. I destroyed all their weapons, engines, and jump drive. Then proceeded to capture one ship then the other. Relevant maybe cheat mod: "black market seminars". Other mods fix some the games problems. The game requires a high level of tactical skills. Using your own weapons and commanding a fleet of ships, you will learn complex tactics. It takes time to learn them, be patient. Positive: The gameplay is superior. The fighter AI makes dogfights hard, Warship AI pushes your tactical skill to the limit. The combined system very hard to beat. The stations are fun to explore and using galaxy - sector - zone is a lot of fun. The official mods add some new galaxies and more space to the game. The trading aspects give a different level of gameplay. Building stations is slow, but a lot of fun. You need to actually get all the components to build a space station or large ship. The shipyard must have all the components to build it. You sometimes need to do trades for it in order to build your ships. Negative: The AI for ships has a major flaw. Ships will take very dangerous routes. Often passing too close to hostile stations or weapons platforms. The menu system is very awkward and clunky. It takes too many keys to do anything. The menu system needs a complete overhaul. The menu code can be fixed by EGOSOFT, add your name to the game wish. Modders have some fixes to the menu, but there are too many problems. Two missions are given that have the same reward. When you attack enemies, the station reward video play an average of 5 times -> 16 times per session. It really breaks the flow of combat, and yes is very annoying! There are many mods that fix aspects of the game. Two menu mods help. 'Showskills' helps. Black market seminars helps, but it's too cheat heavy. The reward mod works for fixing the above annoyance. There The overall game is worth $20, despite it's various flaws. It looses 2 stars, because of poor menu structure and sometimes bad AI design. If all the small flaws are fixed, this is a five star game. Buggy, iv downloaded and installed it 3 times. It gets stuck after the elevator fall at the theta. You fall down, climb up the shaft, through the door, then turn left, open the door, monster follows you around, and your stuck with all locked doors. Don't buy it...
