lots of fun for old and young alike.

I'm in my 40's, my kid is turning 5. We both have sunk a good few hours into this 'early access' educational title. This is my first bite at early access, as it is not something i like in general (i don't mind Kickstarter in comparison), but for this kind of title it may not be as important as it is for a regular game. This is a proper sandbox tool with the Universe at your finger tips. You can try out many things or just lose hours trying out all the included content ('Open existing simulations' etc). It's worth the price of entry, even at this early stage of development and i look forward to what comes out in the future. So far the GOG forum is very empty for this game, but i added some links there to help others get the most out of the current build. Hopefully in the future we can have a thriving community of fans for this unique title without having to visit the Steam forums for info etc! If you love planet simulation type games, or just have an interest in space and science in general, this title is worth looking at.

Nice space simulator

Thank you for bringing DRM-free version of Universe Sandbox, I was waiting for it. Game / program is very good but optimalization isn't so good. I have 110-120 fps in Solar system with 80-85% of GPU usage (1080Ti) and about 45% of CPU usage(i7 4790K) (QHD 1440p and Ultra settings) but after adding Saturn rings 2 times, I have only 60 fps with only ~50% of GPU usage and still ~45-50% of CPU usage. Game does not use performance of hardware. I hope it would be fixed in nearly future. Also font-size is very small in objects-add menu. I scaled up interface to 125% and all buttons icons etc. are good but font-size in some places is very small.

Fun Nerdy Fun, Excellent GUI, could be better

In a normal solar system without earth's moon, I created two earths on opposite sides of the solar system. Stunned, it was stable! At first, I thought they were passing each other. It's far more interesting! Earth B catches up to Earth A then slows down until it's on the other side of the system. Then, speeds up until the process repeats every several 100 years. I created an earth orbiting in the habitable zone of binary stars orbiting around a barycenter. I did all the stuff you need to do, including balancing momentum on all three objects. The first results were failures as expected, but because didn't do the above things. After 100 years, the star system is stable. The stars have variable speeds and orbit in this weird way I'd never seen before. The planet orbit is stable and temperatures are from -271C to 114C. Even using stabilize temperature, it has 94% chance for life. The GUI needs better recording of stats like distance between stars and speeds, etc.

The Universe at your desktop

It truely is what it says it is. Sometimes, I just like leaving the simulator on while I'm away, just so I can see what the world's orbit would be like in 500 years. It truely is a great simulator and a great tool for teaching.

It's A Universe Sandbox

It's a universe sandbox. If you love physics, space, astronomy, etc., then you will love Universe Sandbox. It's the entire universe and anything else you can think of at your disposable, sandbox style. Amazing game. Super interesting to see how things in the universe would react to each other.
