South of the Circle

Beautiful, but missing

As someone put it, it's a "woke" story - and a good one at that. I enjoy good storytelling, and this has it. But I also like to reach the end of the story and have closure, and this fails in that regard. Did they live happily ever after? Did they not? I really can't tell. I understand this is most probably a creative way of ending the story, but I don't enjoy it. Also, it's not a game - it's a story, a movie if you will, where you control the pace, nothing more. So, for me, not worth the full price. If you get it at a discount, and if you enjoy stories - even incomplete ones - then by all means go for it.

Fallout: London

Great game, a few quirks

First of all, before playing, I read the other reviews, and I was expecting a much worse experience than I actually had. I installed FO:L on top of GOG's FO4, and applied the patch patch_fallout_london_2.31_Revision2_(75054)_to_V1.01_IV2.31R3_(75422).exe As of this writing, I'm in the point on the main quest where I met Archie and the Ferryman on the other side of the Thames (I have no idea how far this is on the main story). Crashes (so far): Just one CTD so far, when fast traveling from the Plane to the Thameshaven Market. Reloaded and all was fine. Bugs (so far): One big annoying bug was when riding Ferryman's boat while shooting the hooligans, I'd clip through the boat into the highly radioactive waters. First time it happened I died, and reloaded to try again. Then it happened again and I swam out of the water before dying, and kept playing. Design quirks (so far): On the original FO4, if you saw a door, you knew you could try to open it - it was either locked, unlocked or chained, but you KNEW it was an operating door (unless it was broken or stuck in debris). Not on FO:L - here a door can be just a texture (I thought I'd found a bug when I couldn't open a door, but after noclipping to the other side I realized it was just for show). PLEASE devs, if you're reading this - either don't use the door texture or make it obvious they're not supposed to be opened. Also two ocasions when actual doors were not obvious, making me get lost: Near the beginning, a door hidden in the shadows, and at the Thameshaven a door that looks just like a regular fence (I lost about 30 minutes with this one). Also finding the place where I should place the explosives is not too straightforward (with the aditional dificulty of the fake doors I mentioned above). So, I'm loving the game! A free game that can compare to many AA titles, and with bugs on par with regular Bethesda games. Can do with some polish, but I can envision team Folon joining Bethesda in the near future.

The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy®

Solid, albeit short, point'n'clicker

This is a great game for those missing the old point and click adventures. It's got a few minor bugs that don't affect the gameplay at all (like describing an object that's not already there) and it's a bit short (I finished it in two days playing on my spare time). I give it five stars because it's rare I buy a game on sale for the price of a coffee that's this good - If i'd paid full price, I'd probably give it four stars.

Tower of Time

Awesome story

I know I've read a good book, watched a good movie or played a good game when the story ending leaves me like I've been punched in the stomach. I'm not an avid third-person RPG player (I prefer FPS action and RPG games), but the story of this game kept me hooked until the end. Loved it and recommend it to anyone, specially if they're RPG newbies like me.

Crappy graphics, great gameplay!

Spent months playing coop on my friend's Amiga. Even back then, the graphics were meh, but we couldn't stop until we reached the end. There's a remake ("Hexx"), that adds Wolfenstein/Doom-like graphics, but, apart from the starting levels, the rest of the maps are the same, so if you finish one you'll most definitely master the other.

Kerbal Space Program

Take off the Spyware!

Was about to take advantage of the 75% off to finally buy this game, but after reading (here and off-site) about it's embedded spyware, I changed my mind. Please let me know when a patch makes this a safe buy...

Prey

Surprisingly good

Bought this game on a sale, with a shoulder shrug, thinking it would be a remake of the older 2006 game - and boy was I wrong. The story is very engaging, with a number of twists and and ending that feels like a punch to the stomach (wait for the end-credits scene or press Esc). The DLC didn't engage me though, but even so it was money very well spent! Recommended!

Firewatch

Hooked to the story until the end

Bought the title with a discount, and played it without knowing what to expect (maybe some firefighter action, I don't know). Don't want to get into too many details, but I'd like to say the story got me hooked and I finished it in one go. It was a short time (maybe 3 hours with just breaks to get food and go to the bathroom), but it was money very well spent. If this is a "walking simulator" as some people call it, then by all means I want more.
