Hollow Knight: Silksong

Not a fan of the genre 5/5

I do not like metroidvania or hollow knight kind of games but I bought it simply because of the amount of effort the devs put in, taking their time and eventually releasing it when it was ready. I am looking at early impressions videos and the consensus is that it is a great release on all platforms. The thing that drew my attention is that in an era of greedy publishers that churn out overpriced garbage a quality release like this is charged at just below 20 euros! And it is drm free on day 0! And it has a native linux client! If you can afford it, buy it. This is it! The unicorn you have been waiting 7 years for. And it is real.

Torment: Tides of Numenera

Worthy successor to planescape: torment

OK it is not as good as torment but it is very good. The story is excellent and the world is very unique. It took me about 10 hours to finish and the ending is quite complete and satisfying. Before buying do take a look at the graphics and check out a bit of the world because if you are not intrigued by the setup the combat mechanics and the character build aspects will not be enough to keep you interested. There is a lot of text which means that you have to be willing to read quite a bit to get the most out of the experience. Overall loved it!

The Messenger

Recommended if you like platformers

Excellent platformer. I have been playing it for a couple of hours and my early impression is that this is a masterpiece. I will update the review if something changes but I don't expect I will.

RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business

Great sequel to Rogue City

At least as good as Rogue City, with better level design and tighter gameplay. The detective sequences are more streamlined now and not as annoying as before. I enjoyed the shooting aspect more this time around and I found fewer buggy sequences (I have yet to see a character popping in the scene as it loads). Anyway, I purchased it on day one and I did not regret it. I also noticed that the original is heavily discounted too, so you may want to give that one a try as well.

SKALD: Against the Black Priory Deluxe Edition

Excellent old school like rpg

The graphics are charming but decidedly retro. The story is quite interesting (I completed the game) and the difficulty is fair. You will have to make use of spells and special abilities to complete combat encounters but overall I cannot recall a point where i was particularly stuck. Bought it on a whim and did not regret it! I think you won't either. Can't wait for the next entry in the series if there ever is one. Final note: The ending is definitive so you don't have to worry about waiting for a sequel or anything like that.

SKALD: Against the Black Priory

Retro and good

You can see the graphics in the screenshots. The gameplay is what you would expect and the story has been interesting so far (I am about 12hours into this). If you expect a good old school RPG this is what you are getting. Pay full price, I think it is worth it.

Crusader Kings II: Royal Collection

Let's be fair now..

Ok it is a bit of a reach for paradox to ask so much money for a game with so many DLC pieces (available separately) but it really is a classic. On discount I got the Royal Collection which has all the gameplay DLCs and basically all the game has to offer for 65 euros and it is still a one of a kind experience you cannot get anywhere else. I wish it was cheaper, like say 40 euros, after all these years but still judging it on its merits the game is an easy 5/5 every time. Ok maybe 4/5 if you take the price into account. But definitely this is no 1/5 as is rated at the time of writing.

Shadow Empire

Excellent 4X with lots of replayability

You are supreme leader of a city in a post apocalyptic setting where you fight it out (or work with) other cities and factions to become the ruler of the planet. It is classic hex based strategy with an interesting logistics system (watch tutorials) where you have to balance different factions, people and organisations to maintain a stable country, a happy population and eventually win the game. The interface is a bit cumbersome and if you really know what you're doing the AI eventually becomes a bit predictable but by the time that happens you will have switched to multiplayer anyway. In short, this is a surprisingly good hex based strategy game unlike any other on the market - easy to recommend. Be sure to watch a tutorial or two before playing and good luck!
