Ok, the original was way cool for its time with revolutionary voxel graphics and an interesting story. For this I give it 4/5 However, the remake (Outcast 2) is better in every way and you should buy that one for a more refined experience. In short: Buy this for the nostalgia, buy the remake (Outcast 2) for the gameplay.

As you will read in the reviews here, this is a remake of the first outcast. The first one was way ahead of its time with interesting and exciting vocel graphics. This is the better game though, so get this one if the setting and story appeals to you. Sometimes it goes really cheap on discount which makes it a no-brainer purchase but even full price it is worth it.

You get to decide what a king (or lord) would do if in charge of a fictional kingdom in the midst of hostile and non-hostile peoples and organisations. If you can look past the fact that the graphics are all ASCII based and you make decisions by entering numbers corresponding to menu options then you are in for a fun ride. The author's love and personality shine through the game so buy him a coffee by buying his game :)

The game is short (maybe 2-3 hours if you do some sidequests, which you absolutely should) but has enough character, an appealing famiy-friendly setting and a low price to make the effort worthwhile. It also has a native linux version so, what the heck, 5/5 - did not regret buying it.

When the game first came out, there were a ton of bugs (I pre-ordered it) but I think it was playable and somewhat enjoyable on PC and xbox series x (cannot say the same for the playstation versions which were a joke). Gamer anticipation before launch was sky high and since the game turned out to be buggy that led to a flood of negative reviews, especially since CDPR (CD Projekt Red) kept on fanning the flames of expectation. These days the game is not the same as when it launched. It plays better, it looks better, it is balanced better and it's definitely not worth 3.7/5 as a general score. It is also on 50% discount much of the time and it is a huge AAA title that you should consider. In fact I would urge you to buy it if the setting and first person perspective sound appealing; there is nothing like it on the market. Yes, it is not Witcher 3 but then again what is? Overall, I give it 4.6/5 and two thumbs up.

It's a very short game and although it is a sweet short story and the art is beautiful, there are much better games to be had for 5 euros at GOG. If you find it on discount you should get it if you are after a short and sweet "interactive" story. There's not much of a game to be found here though...

Short (I completed it in a couple of days), artful experience with great music and some ultra light exploration and puzzles. Definitely get it on discount if you enjoy that sort of think, but it is also worth the full price (imho - your mileage may vary). Works flawlessly on Linux using wine btw.
