For me original Diablo simply doesn't hold up after 20+ years - games have evolved and got many exciting elements that simply weren't there in D1 - thanks to Belzebub we basically get Diablo 1.5 which is still enjoyable for people like me but maintaining (and improving! new quests are simply epic) the atmosphere of the game
Still looks great, I haven't touched the story yet, was just slashing orcs for 8h straight ...

As an owner of the original diablo I can only stay I wouldn't touch this with a stick - they broke battle.net for original diablo 1 on purpose and now OH WHAT A SURPRISE it's back ONLY for the gog version. Nice move :) Their stock value shows how great their recent decisions have been. This is yet another one to add to the pile.
