Council is a great game. It is well written and interesting. The characters are distinctive and relatable. I also really liked the voice acting. I agree with other reviewers who say that the first chapters are batter than the last ones. But overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Yes, it is buggy. And the first version (unpatched) took more than 30 seconds to load between locations! At times it was like "wait 30 seconds for location to load, proceed 5 seconds to another exit, wait another 30 to load". The first area (Bricks) was a bit too large and there the load times were the most maddening, I guess many players would abandon the game before venturing to Sunder. But if you would endure the first 6 hours or so, the whole wonderful world of Anachronox would open before your eyes. + Characters are wonderful and lovable. + Dialogues are sooo good, great humour + Storyline is interesting and very diverse + Battle system is great. Weapon crafting is impressive and extensive
Imagine bigger, better and more complex Fallout set in steampunk world. Arcanum had some bugs, the battle system was flawed (why would they go with hybrid system? why?) but it had everything to become one of the greatest games ever made. The main quest is ENORMOUS. The amount of dialogues is just gigantic. EVERY of thousands of dialogues have separate lines for different intelligence levels, different races, attitudes. Technological trees are huge, you can play completely different games depending if you are a techie or a magic character. And you'd better specialize. Playing character balanced in the middle of technology/magica line, would take a lot of fun away from the game. I wholeheately recommend the game.
And the first one I played on cd-rom. It was absolutely stunning at the time. Great graphics, controls, the whole wonderful open world. Dialogs and characters are charming and the whole game story is very interesting. Definitely in my "Best 5 games ever made".
