What I really liked about this game was: - music - really suits the "climate" - and if we speak about "climate" - for majority of the game it was great - dark, corpo owned etc. - a lot of lore items, that you could read (pity there were no audiobooks). What I really didn't like: 1) hacking 2) fighting. 3) lack of tutorials ad 1 - this strongly reminded me Shadowrun series. God, I hated it so much back then, And here it same, it has nothing to do with RPG, it's rather some "dexterity" repetitive element, that you need put a lot of time and resourcess into although you find no enjoyment in it at all. ad 2 - AI of enemies is terrible (like really really, they even do not know how to jump), resources are scarce, after short time it become frustrating. ad 3 - I don't like when game huide you by hand on every occasion but this game do not explain you almost nothing, and when you try to find i.e. controls you will get only basic ones. And then you need to search web. In general, most of the fun I had was in the first hours - when I was travelling around the city (or sewers), reading books, going to various places, doing quests. But then with repetitive fighting, repetitive hacking and story "erupting" in a quick manner I had less and less fun.
For current price it's definitely worth it, would give score like 7/10. Good type, quite similar to ATOM RPG or Wastelands 2, obviously to classic Fallouts. And this is the biggest advantage of this game, which by default suggests its good. Still have some bugs present, mostly smaller ones. From these annoying - several times my alt stopped working so I couldn't highlight items and had to restart game. Or, quest item kept disappearing from my inventory so I had to find cheat command to add it. Or quest that just "stuck" and I couldn't progress (mayor elections). Main minuses except bugs: 1) Big cities which seems empty in a great part, 2) Many quests required tiring travel between various locations back and forth, you just have a feeling of time lost while waiting for your party to run from one marker to another, 3) Experience system need balancing, at the very high levels I could level up by killing 2 standard enemies in one minute. 4) For me there is too many items that you can search - sound strange but there is a lot of searchable items in each area, usually contain junky stuff, and many have second or two of "animations". It was ok at the beginning, but later I was really tired. 5) Haven't noted any companion related quests, 6) Haven't felt a lot of depths in NPC, usually dialogues are quite short and can be summarised as "do this". Not sure if I will remember any of them in few days. 7) Dunno really how you can obtain any car. I just got "movable HQ" which a method of transport, however again a bit of wasted potential, as you cannot i.e. improve it anyhow - i.e. speed or looks. Anyway, had quite good fun with it, happy had a chance to play, however game could have been significantly better.
Happy that I have bought this game. Hapy as well, that there is a lot story lines and choices. Pissed, that gameplay is quite often "load and rework". You havent meet requirement? Youre done mate, you have no impact on this. This is a game when you want to male a big chart which decision leads where - seems nice, but I have found this frustrating very often.
Well, I started my journey with spiderwebsoftware games long ago with Avernum 3. By total accident, looking for something for free, I have found a huge free demo of it. After few hours of playing I knew that I need to play full game, it was so great experience. Since then I've played probably all Avernums, all Avadons, Queen Wish (which being honest is my least favourite one) - including all remakes. Game is very good if you know what to expect - or if you like story and reading above everything else. Giving "just" 4/5 as I am a bit worries about last trends of Jeff, i.e. remaking rather than creating further stories of established series (ore spin-offs). Anyway, game is definitely worth the price and as usual - you can play huge demo for free, so you can easily decide if you want to buy this game or not.
Quite simple and straightforward RPG with turnbased combat and random battles. Quite liked, i.e. spent 12h and beat it, had some fun however probably will also soon forget about it. It nothiing spectacular but worth its price, especially on 50% discount. Main minuses for me - to much quest repetitiveness and too much running.
Story and game itself is for 4 or even more, but there is too many bug currently that sometimes really made me want to quit and forget this game. Also I have a feeling of some missing content or guidance. If I knew I would not buy this game until they fix all issues, also suggest every potential buyer to wait some time for fixes.
Firstly, I am a big fan of F1 and f2, doing both for 20+ times. And, being honest, I had great hopes but I was little+++ disappointed. Below is my review, after ALMOST finishing the game. Often I do not say what is good and what is bad as this depends on what you actually like. - interactions with people. What I was expecting is just text message coming from some not-important NPCs. If NPCs i somewhat important you can come into dialogue. Here, everyone can talk, you have to read text. It depends what you like, I am also fan of Planescape Torment, but I had no fan asking random people same 4 or 5 questions each time, wondering if there is something new. Fallout was fun because you knew, when something can lead to more, here you have no damn idea because everytime you have same pattern of questions and you waste your time. I of course appreciate that you wanted to improve lore etc., somebody spent hours but I really appreciate dome differantion between usefull and "for lore" NPCs. - no "sound dialogues". I understand that this is very hard, you just cannot do this in indie/amateur studios without spending a lot of money. Like Ive played Kotor 2 mods, rated high, and "fan voices" were really annoying brighlty showing why this is just a mod, not a game. Here we have total silence. Fallout was similar but at least we had talking heads that added a lot. And Want to sum this point with previous one - you have a lot of text, usually without much meaning, and this is kept for whole game. - Repetitive quests. Why? Just why? Why I need to bring 50x of paper, 5x of toadstool or anything else? WHYYY??? - AI. I got a dog. And dog was supposed to run when injured. And when he was, he was running between one enemy and other, Honestly, got to one, turn back, and run again to previous enemy. Then he was killed. I guess Even dogmeat has better AI. - Quest log is total mess, even comparing to fallout 1&2. In big part due to this generic quests mentioned above. In big part because of generic quests. EOWL.
