Good conclusion, finally getting to Syberia and such. However, the logic of the puzzles counters the fun characters and rich world (richer than the 1st game I would argue). It's not a bad old school point and click if you need to scratch that itch. Keep a walkthrough handy.
World feels desolate, which matches thematically with the story, but when each location has maybe only one character it's a bit weird. Some of the puzzles are a bit obscure. Otherwise, the story and music are nice and well worth a look!
If you're new and wanting to go visit old games, this is a hard sell. But if you're from the era, it's a great game. Excellent variety from Doom with extra items and weapons. However, the 3 episodes are the pinnacle, the 2 episodes that came later are weighed down by poor level design. Get the Brutal RPG mod which gives you mouse look, improved graphics and slightly modified gameplay. This is a must for new players not used to the era, or those of us who have played the original but need something new to spice things up.
Heroes 3 is what really modernised the series. 1 is really outdated, 2 is not bad but it's a little clunky in its interface. It is also much harder than 3 and frankly, it's enough that it diminishes the game. If you can forgive some interface issues and enjoy a hard turn-based strategy then this is the game for you. If you're not sure, start with Heroes 3, definitely the pinnacle of the series.
Took me about an hour, but there was more to do if I so chose. That means there is some replayability. Getting to the peak was suitably challenging. I felt rewarded for completing the game, but not unduly challenged. The music is wonderful and everything is simple but effective. If you want a chill-out kind of game, this is easy to recommend.
If you're new to the series. Get Game 1 (Director's Cut), game 2, then skip to 5. Summary of series from my perspective. BS 1 Good game if a little aged. Director's cut Great game 5/5 the gold standard of point and clicks BS 2 Good game 4/5 BS 3 Good story/writing, let down by average gameplay 3/5 BS 4 Same again but worse 2/5 BS 5 4/5 In other words, if you liked the first game or two, then this is a good return to the standard of writing and atmosphere that made the series memorable. It's not as good as the first but the beautiful art design makes it much more playable and the hint system will help avoid frustration for some players.
I remember loving this game, but oh nostalgia how you have betrayed me. On the list of 10 FPS games you should play before you die, this game doesn't cut it. Get stuck on scenery 20times per mission AI that kind of bugs out, it's so ugly you can't see the mission-critical switches. I mean, I appreciate it for what it did... advanced gore and good level design/weapons (for the time). But the ONLY things that hold up is the shooting and sound. Loved it then, but playing now was a chore. Play ONLY with nostalgia goggles on.
I played KKND 1 and 2 back in the day. If you played 1, but have not seen this sequel, it's VERY different in gameplay and design (animations very different and balance of units/towers is totally overhauled) which gives a totally different experience. If you have played neither but are wondering, are these classic RTS games I need to play? NO Command and Conquer and Warcraft/Starcraft are your must-play games, these are B grade at best. In summary, not horrible, but unless you want to revisit this time of RTS games, I would avoid.
Like the Warcraft 1&2 bundle, Blizzard decided to do the absolute bare minimum here. It is EXACTLY the same game you remember but works on windows 10. No graphical improvements or UI upgrades, nothing. If you liked the original, then here it is. If you wanted to check it out for the first time, this is probably the best way to do it, but be aware of a couple of things. This game still looks like 1996 eek. While the story is good, it's ultimately simple. It's about saving one village, not questing around half the world, so it's a 'compact' game, but it has nice characters, settings and genuinely brilliant, moody music. But if you were not used to 90s RPG/dungeon crawlers, there are various adjustments that you would need to make in your own mind to enjoy this.
