Many will claim that this game is too easy, I'd say that you can't be a imbecile to get through it but you probably won't ever get hopelessly lost if you are reasonably intelligent. The puzzles are very well balanced, perhaps the best I've ever seen in any adventure game. It's challenging without being frustrating, which many adventure games never succeed at. It only took me 3 days {on and off} to beat but I wasn't disappointed, I made it an effort to power through because the puzzles were so well designed I was invested. The achievements are hilarious again, (As they were in the first game, if you tried goofy things) I got an achievement for trying to tazer a dead body back to life. I'd replay this game start to finish, just to try the most out-landish things and get an achievement for it. I love the achievements in this series because they are often hilarious. The feature to ask about items in your inventory or show them results in often interesting puzzle solutions or funny responses from those you show random things. The story shows us a flawed, ego-centric, self-serving, self-centered Kathy, who we expected to see grow, and she does, but we're also asked to simply accept her for who she is. The story features a few broken characters who are approached with empathy and understanding. The story ventures deeper into Kathy's own psyche so that she's understandable and so that we can empathize with her. The super-natural woo is better incorporated in this sequel and it seems less jarring. The super-natural in this sequel feels more like an artistic vision, that was intentional and well crafted, focused over the first game. (I'm thinking for comparison, how Romero zombie films aren't just about zombies, but something much deeper under the surface.) The game's subtext isn't difficult to deciepher necessarily but it can still be peeled back like layers of a onion. (Mental health themes...) The graphics are beautiful, what you'd expect... Good game.
It's difficult to not see the auto save system as a design flaw, especially in the later stages. I actually finished the game on YouTube. It's frustrating to master sections of the game and then to have to continously redo them, to further advance in sections you haven't mastered yet. It wasn't really an issue for me until the final act. Some of the jumps need to be timed correctly or Indy's position on a rope or chain needs to be just right. There were several occasions where I'd miss a swinging jump just because I wasn't low or high enough on a chain. You can beat up bad guys with objs you pick-up, a feature modern games still implement. It's not full of cut scenes, the way forward is never unclear like modern games that are so expansive. It's a sit down and don't think too much kind of game. It has some puzzles that shouldn't fry your brain. It's still a fun game, the graphics have held up reasonably well unless you're a graphics snob. It generally gives you opportunities to heal. It has action sequences that are still fun but sometimes its age shows...There's a sequence where you shoot a gun on a moving vehicle, for me the mouse sensitivity was way too high. There's probably other sequences that show "old game problems ". Modern games have figured most things out to make game play tolerable and also enjoyable The story is still fun. It's not overly cinematic as in modern games. This wasn't 2025 it is a retro gaming vintage. There's enough different locations to keep you interested. Environments look like real places It's not a bad Indiana Jones game and it does deserve all the hate. There's been really stinker Indy games. The biggest flaw here is it's lack of save game options. After playing Infernal machine, the straightforward-ness over Infernal Machine's complex maze levels was refreshing. It's more relaxed but has intense moments. Over all it captures the Indy soul. The voice actor is decent. The game is good. I didn't finish but it's possible
It's been a minute, so I don't honestly know how to rate this game. I remember that the combat was fun, the graphics were fun too. I liked running around naked hitting things. I liked being a rambo instead of sneaking around. The game allows for different types of gameplay, it doesn't have annoying stealth missions you fail if you are a run in and KILL THEM ALL type of gamer. The game provides enough of a challenge. It seems like you can level up your character to be basically invicible. You have to be sort of smart about what items you're carrying and what abilities you have sometimes. I was at end of the game, realized I had to upgrade my character to win, craft "med-packs" thankfully I could. I played as a female V. The costumization options are actually pretty great if you enjoy playing around with the features of your virtual character... The game is huge and there's much to explore but at times I think it still felt repetitive and kind of monotonous exploring the world, almost boring, yet I still played. It did capture the feeling sometimes of just walking around a virtual city but they could have done even more with it, but it's not a virtual-life simulator, it's a game...The world itself is sort of twisted, gloom, litterally "cyberpunk" but in sometimes somewhat off-putting ways, if not strangely allurring. I enjoyed going around causing trouble for hours on end, just beating up random people or climbing up random buildings. Some of the choices had great pay off, scenes that rewarded you for your choices. Choice games, to me, are kind of stressfull sometimes because, you don't want a crappy ending by your own hand and to feel like you wasted your time, vs when a game simply has a crappy ending, you beat the game and just take it as it is. I didn't play the expansion, but I guess I played the "happy ending", the stand alone game doesn't really have a truly "happy ending". I was stressed sometimes making choices having put that much time into it
I first played this game 25 years ago, I had personal reasons to go back. If I recommended this to my neice and nephew, I doubt they'd get into it, unless they could appreciate retro 3D gaming. Game were often frustrating for the wrong reasons back then, and going back to them they still are. As a game, its pretty hard to rate. It was tops 25 years ago. Now, it's some what arcadic in terms of controls. The graphics are 1999 3D graphics. I'm familar with what games were then, and what this was at the time. Hal Barwood, Doug Lee, the appearance of Sophia (Although not voiced by the same actress) was a huge draw for me. FOA was a masterpiece, this is the sequel I never played through. Being in my 30s I understand the rocky transition to 3D that occurred during this time. However, for it's time it was stunning, the game dates itself, clunky, glitchy.Auto-aim sucks I encountered game breaking glitches twice. Once when I killed the giant snake, the cieling above never opened, another time when I picked up the jewel in Nub's Tomb. ( I went through the floor, couldn't get back up the elevator) The game isn't above glitches that can ruin your day, so save often and have multiple saves The game is challenging, that makes it feel worth pursuit. Although I took periodic breaks from it. The levels are long, complex, maze like, they take patience, exploration, but somehow they are actually pretty addicting. Some times there's ambiguity, not because you're stupid, but because the game tricks you . For instance there's one section of the minecart level I remember, where 99.99 percent of the time doors only open when moving forwards not reverse. There's one hidden room where you have to back into it for it to open. Great variety in levels, the design for the time was great. I prefer the aesthetic, designs over the Tomb Raider games of the time. If you like vintage games, exploration, challenges, backtracking, puzzles, I say play it. But It is old, it is what it is.
This wasn't getting a whole lot of attention, so I thought I'd try it too so that I can review it. The game isn't subpar but it isn't really what you would expect from a major finished commerical game, either. If you look at the page here, you kind of already know to expect that. It's seemingly an indie team. I went back and looked at games from it's era, even though I lived then... The graphics while not absymal, aren't the best the era had to offer. They didn't bother me though. The voice acting, is all very NPC-like voice acting, some of it sounds like they pulled the janitor out of the closet to voice a few lines... However, the game's strengths overcome this. The dialogue is clever enough, but sometimes it runs on. However, clearly someone made an effort to write an interesting story and think this whole thing out. The puzzles and mischeif is where it really excels. Some of the puzzles are easy, then there's challenging ones that are still intuitive and quite frankly enjoyable. You feel accomplished. The game even makes you feel clever solving some of it's easier puzzles. The protagonist, steals, lies, breaks into homes, cheats...It's amazing, it's awesome. I prefer adventure games that make you chuckle, when a character does precisely what they shouldn't do to get ahead in life. She's a literal THUG! The game also ironically has some sort of weird altruistic thing going on that's kind of fun, you go around paying it forwards the entire game as you also do things that are pretty rotten to people... When people mouth off to her, she puts them in their place... she seems to have down inner work, therapy... Honestly, I have 4 adventure games I'm playing,of which are from bigger publishers but the atmosphere, the puzzles and whatever else this game has going for it, made it my go to every day I sat down to play a game. It keeps you interested, hooked. I could have walked away, I didn't. I'd recommend this to genre fans . Probably a once over.
Length=Leaves you wanting more but not disappointed I played the original Hollywood monsters before starting this. The original was a great game in its own right but extremely flawed. It did many horrible adventure game sins. (This isn't review about the original but) Pixel hunting, navigating to rooms that you don't even know where to click on the screen to get to, (logical once you read the solution) but non-intuitive puzzles that made it seem impossible, sometimes nonsensical puzzles, objects that are basically hidden objects ... Despite all its flaws, the original was a game I'd play again, even recommend it. I'd also be frank that a walkthrough is not shameful to get through the original. Most its puzzles aren't "wtf" but you ask yourself, why would I ever think of this? How many hours would I need to sit here, weeks, months before I thought of it? There's a globe puzzle that's pretty logical but terrible. This game occasionally has very familiar puzzles but done better. I had no problem solving the more challenging puzzles, especially ones familiar to the original. Even if you get stuck in this one, it's got a hint system. This game can offer you a challenge, without frustrating you as long as you understand it's more challenging puzzles. I almost got frustrated once, but then I was like...OOHHH, I get it... I didn't use hints for any of the more challenging puzzles. I did get stuck a few times, but it was ironically over something stupid, and I progressed after the first hint. I was never hopelessly lost. The game challenges you without insulting you but it also wants you to have fun, some puzzles are super easy, it balances out with the harder ones. It's awesome to see reoccurring characters. It was a good ending. It did the characters justice. I cared about the cast and their personalities, great original and inspired. It emotes well and just enough. Humor is done well. It leaves you wanting more like the classics, like Day of the Tentacle.
Larry! Larry! Larry! He takes the hotel owner like a pro, its so hot 🔥. I can't forget the imagery and then he takes a hot flower chick while standing up like he's a star. The sex is amazing. You also get to take a crazy dom who he has screaming. You get to take a ghost even, larry is a damn machine, and then a super pleasure bot that kills most men it pleasures..Larry takes the bot like a damn hero , breaking it! Larry Larry! Larry! Larry! Beautiful drawn animations. Puzzles are reasonable, delightfully crude and devious when necessary. Game is funny. Voice acting is great. This is the story of a man's man who overcomes all odds and challenges. The ending annoyed me. Has an annoying puzzle you can skip... Definitely repayable.
So, if you worked on this game...some of this might seem a bit harsh. (Stop reading if you're sensitive and worked on this game.) The game is mostly fair, some of the puzzles aren't well designed. I'll name as many as I can remember, there's a paint mixing puzzle which in reality has about 7 solutions but the game wants you to pick the one solution the game designers had in mind. There's a smoke signaling puzzle, that makes sense when you figure out what it's doing but is un-necessarily difficult by its crude, unreadable drawings that are necessary to be read to solve. There's a maze puzzle, where the rooms to the maze change orientation, you briefly get a top o view of the entire maze, and all it's rooms when the rooms change their orientation, but they don't actually line up like they do when navigating the maze. This is again rather un-necessary... Most puzzles are reasonable. Some weren't executed as well as they could have been. The voice acting... most of it is decent... Not to be malicious but, the main protagonist, I didn't particularly enjoy this performance. It was too "WA-WAAA-I--OLDDD!!!" (wild) for me. Every line of dialogue was, "GGAAA EEEE ZZZZZZEEEE, LEEEETSSSSS GGGAAAA-E-ITTTT CKRAZEEEEE!" (Geeze, let's get crazy) Nothing against you, if you're reading this, whoever voiced the character, I'm sorry but I literally had to get drunk to sit through it. I tried muting it but turned out I missed hearing other voices. Honestly, I think the voice is why I needed a break from the game. I finished it eventually. I'm sorry, I just didn't vibe with it at all. (Not everyone has the same criticism) After getting drunk twice I got used to it. The game is a good length, just when you think it might be over, it goes on even longer. It keeps you hooked enough but honestly, it nearly dragged on. (Ok, is it done yet?) The Graphics are well drawn mostly. It captures the XMAS spirit. It's not a bad game but I find find certain parts a lil frustrating.
Unless you're a fan of Ragnar, this really isn't that good. Midly gripping, boring, short and too easy. I wouldn't recommend this. Leaves a lot to be desired, left me mostly empty. I feel like the creator had hunger, instincts or maybe he had the perfect collaboration to make a masterpiece with TLJ 2 decades ago... However, his recent work to me anyways is pretty lackluster and forgettable. I can't remember alot of Dream Fall Chapters and Dreamfall was almost it's own creation and spin off game that never achieved the same status as TLJ and never will and it also dragged it through the mud... This game isn't really worth paying for. It's a resounding MEH and I could review it just with one word being... MEH.... I think much like Star Wars, if you slap a brand or creative influence to certain properties, people flock to it like it's something worthy... but this game is very very mid and if it wasn't Ragnar it would get very average to sub-average reviews. It's pretty but that's what it really does best, I can't say it does anything as well or better than how it looks and that's really not enough to make it worth the time and purchase. The story just feels empty and I didn't feel any sense of accomplishment or fullfillment after. Honestly, I think Ragnar is another hasbeen or one hit wonder. He seems like a nice guy but the content he puts out hasn't the kind of soul and lightning in the bottle as TLJ and worse he doesn't really seem to have any love or loyality to the characters and story of his greatest creation. His treatment of April in the sequels was TERRIBLE... Anyways, this game is very very mid and MEH, would not recommend. If you read the positive reviews, they are psuedo-intellectual, fluffy, trying to make this into some Ragnar masterpiece, clearly fans, but this game is pretty disappointing and really just not worth your time.
So, if I was going to recommend an adventure game to someone, as if they had to play it before they died, this probably wouldn't be it. However, it's still a great game for lovers of the genre if one isn't put off by the political "themes." I'm not really a political guy; I'm an adventure gamer guy. So, I can't speak to how seriously the game is trying to take itself politically and what its actual aim may be. However, its content makes it a little more inaccessible to all. The story itself keeps you interested enough, has moments. There were humorous moments, but I don't think I was ever slapping my knee laughing at this game. It had moments that I felt had the potential to soar in laughter, but it never really went there. It's a game that would have lent itself to over-the-top hysteria, similar to classic Lucas Arts games, but it doesn't really have moments like those. For those who enjoy the genre, the puzzles are mostly solid. The game doesn't have any puzzles that are really unfair. There is one puzzle that I will try not to spoil too much, namely a musical puzzle that requires you to listen to verses of a song. Maybe it's a personal weakness, but I just couldn't memorize the words and what the hell verse the song was on. That's the only puzzle I really didn't want to "waste time on." The rest of the game I played legitimately. Sometimes puzzles are just too aggreviating, and the payoff isn't there. I like solving puzzles, but puzzles that rely on reflexes, memorization, or even lyrical "intelligence?" can sometimes be unfair. The characters ARE likeable enough; the protagonist grows on you, but at the start of the game, I was rather unimpressed by the protagonist. The characters all work; you get a background story for the main character, but it's sort of hard to care... All the characters could have been given better creative treatment, they are never really made to soar. It's a great time killer for fans of the genre, but it could have been more.
