The game's main mechanism is directly lifted from Faerie Solitaire, but you play with smaller number of cards (which might be good, less randomness) but also colours of the cards power your other abilities. Visually cards are placed in interesting shapes, but I think this mostly just makes the board less readable for no real benefit. Still, it's a very enjoyable game even if very derivative.
Not only is the game a classic but it still holds it's own. You must remember by today's standard it's a very simple game and without going the spell route there is little tactic. That said, the music, visuals and overall atmosphere is great, replayability is good and gameplay still is addictive. Many complain that the expansion is not here... however it was a mixed bag (just compare online the opening cinematics to both) with some good but mostly half-baked ideas. As it is Diablo is still a really fun game, with or without nostalgia. And has better graphics than Spiderweb games. :)
