Shadow Warrior Classic Complete

Crouching Woman, Hidden Wang.

"You want to wash Wang? Or you want to watch Wang wash wang?" It's full of weird lines like that lol. If you like the Duke 3DBlood era of Build Engine fps then you should get this, especially if you missed it somehow. It is not the last game released on the Build Engine (Redneck Rampage and NAM came after) but it runs the most advanced version of the Build Engine. Just my opinion, but this feels like an actual sequel to Duke 3D, the spirit of that style of fps is intact: leading edge tech (for its time of course) combined with strong characterattitude and fun! It really feels like the developers had fun with their tech during this era. The attitude of the developers reflected a 'sequel' mentality too, George Broussard in 1996: "We want Shadow Warrior to surpass Duke Nukem 3D in features and gameplay and that's a TALL order." In my opinion they certainly matched and even beat Duke 3D in areas. The weapons are seriously heavy; from Katanas and Quad Barreled Riot Shotguns (yep, that's QUAD BARRELED!) to Nuclear warheads, the game just has a ridiculous arsenal. There's also naked anime girls to find hidden throughout the levels! Some people might find the Asian stereotypes offensive, but I feel Shadow Warrior makes fun of the cinema stereotypes people like Bruce Lee worked hard to expose. It's making fun of Western cinema's representation of Asia, not of Asian culture itself. It's certainly not a game that would be made these days however lol. Politically incorrect, sexist, violent; it's a game that would make those daytime tv mothers' heads explode. If your a fan of fps games from the 90s era and aren't easily offended, I highly recommend Shadow Warrior; great little piece of fps history to play.

Uplink: Hacker Elite

The Definition of Immersion

This is easily one of the most immersive, deep and fun game games since the 90s. Before genres became established by the modern consoles, developers thought in terms of player immersion and asked "What would it be like to be X?" rather than "Let's mix RPG with FPS!". The result was that many games had simulation elements while still being fun and not constricted by realism. Uplink then is a modern game built on the 90s principles of game design and asks "What would it be like to be a hacker?"; it is completely unyielding when it comes to immersion, every element is tied into the game. When you first Login, you are not creating an artificial player profile, you are logging into the game's world! I won't spoil a single gameplay element, the joy of this game is biting deep into all the possibilities, I will say however that it is a completely non-linear experience with many mysteries and secrets; it's an accomplishment of game design even on pure mechanical terms, but artistically you will find an equal effort was put into atmosphere and ambiance, a must-buy for old-school PC players!

Two Worlds Epic Edition

So bad and full of character that I loved it.

Ok so, this is one of those games that are just so innocently terrible you can't help falling in love with them. As of today, 09/07/2012, Skyrim is the RPG everyone went nuts for; well I'm telling you, Skyrim doesn't even have half the character of this game. If you have played games like Gothic then you will be familiar with the mild-mannered Chuck Norris type heroes these European games feature, and you will love the awkward and stiff dialog! But despite the strange opening and mild yet violent hero the game becomes quite captivating. I'm not going to give even slight spoilers, the story is actually pretty original and told in a unique way as well; what I will say though is that there isn't the usual "Hero vs 'Evil thing with silly fantasy name'" (although there is plenty of silly fantasy names), instead you are searching for your sister who has been kidnapped and held ransom. So while doing jobs as part of the ransom you get to travel across this very fleshed out world: you will start out in filthy peasant lands but will travel to military outposts of a Roman-like empire, visit large trading citiescastles and you can choose different factions to side with. You can buy horses which are actually useful (the world is quite large, probably bigger than OblivionSkyrim and laid out in a more sprawling fashion) and do tons and tons and tons of odd jobsquests etc (work for merchant guilds for example). So it's not just a big empty world! And if you travel around you will scare the crap out of yourself, you will come across weird powerful creatures and outposts; there's a sense of danger from the wilderness that just isn't found in Elder Scrolls games. Now for the combat: very actiony, you have a Diablo style random loot system combined with a Devil May Cry third person action approach. For those who aren't familiar with the genresgames I mentioned: The lootequipment you wear regularly increases in quality and abilities, it makes combat and treasure hunting exciting since it is randomized, you will always look forward to checking the shops out or hunting for treasure chests. When fighting you have different abilities depending on what style of combat you are after, melee characters can learn different attacks and magic characters can craftlearn different spells. The character development is actually quite deep and there is no level limit, so you can take your time and dive deep into this game; all its mechanics are expanded nicely; Magic, Combat, Archery, Alchemy, Adventuring, Story path. It's unpolished, awkward and has retarded rock dragons, but when you play a game where the developers were willing to try new things and actually bring a little life into their game you can't help but have fun with it. For the price GoG are asking it's hard to fault the value, very big game and fun to terrorize in.

Conflict: Desert Storm

Decent with Co-Op

It isn't anything special, very mediocre by today's standards but hey, play it with mates and it's a good laugh.

Painkiller Black Edition

FPS Roots :)

This really is a beast of a game: old-school dynamic combat, fast movement, player driven pacing (not a single scripted sequence!), and tons of blood & gore. It's a huge creative effort with its own unique approach to level design; enemy types constantly change and a heavy-metal soundtrack pounds away throughout the game. For those who understand why Doom still is the greatest FPS game but haven't had a chance to play this beast... BUY THIS FRIGGING GAME! Seriously you will love it.
