I've played through both Trine games and they are a work of art to look at. Absolutely gorgeous, especially Trine 2. I was in awe at the beauty of each and every scene! But honestly, I found the games pretty boring to play. The graphics kept me going. Overall though, as a game this is not all that much fun.
This game reminds me of a current day Icewind Dale, which is a good thing! While I'm still early in the game, I really like what I've seen so far. The characters are all diverse and interesting, there are lots of different strategies when fighting enemies. I like being able to see what spell the enemy is casting and how long it'll take before it's cast. One character can refocus the mage's spell on herself. So this protects weaker characters by having the damage inflicted on the stronger one. It's also possible to get out of the way of a spell like a fireball. So there's lots of strategy and different things going on. Graphics are really nice too! If you like games like Icewind Dale, I think you'll like this one.
It's a decent little game but there are a few problems with it. Why are the characters so tiny on the screen? It looks like a little ant in an ant colony. Second no native controller support. You have to go through a mapping utility and map the keyboard controls and even then, it doesn't feel quite right. Pushing up to jump? Who came up with this bright idea? Every time I try to push up to go up a ladder, if I'm not perfectly under it, my character ends up jumping. Like I said, who came up with this not so bright idea? Third, the characters are pretty unlikable and the humor is very dry and unwitty.
