Vambrace: Cold Soul

Great art/soundtrack, punishing game

Well what can I say... After 2 hours, I found a crafting altar during a mission. Using it gave my whole team a debuff that brought almost all my stats to 0. Dying and resting didnt remove the debuff, neither any items I had which lead me to believe I was supose to spend hours farming materials to remove the debuff so I can start farming materials to actually play the game... Thats in the first * dungeon *. Sorry but Im not grinding 2 hours or restarting my 2 hour game to reach to same point. Talk about backward mechanics. The art ,music and story might help you go through those kinds of surprises. Its really good and the combat was OK enougn that I would have kept on playing. The game focus on story with a main characters but really want to feels like a roguelite. Not my cup of tea.

Impaler Gold

Fun little shooter

Took around 5 hours to unlock every weapon, upgrades and finish the game on Hard mode. The extreme mode look a bit too intense for me ;) Marathon mode too seem a bit too hard but Im not the best at shooters. Would be nice to have more scenery and music. Everything here is great, just very minimal and get repetitive. At least runs are very short. Also maybe have more then one weapon ( + the Impaler you start with every run ) You have to choose one of the 8 before every run. Overall good game and smooth gameplay. Cheap price help the shortcomings.

Blasphemous

Best 2d platformer/figher imho

I think comparing this game to a souls game is kinda misleading. No leveling or lost of progress ( farm ) when you die. Everything seem so perfectly balanced. Combat, visual and music.. all great. If you havnt played this, like the artstyle and melee focused 2d platformers, you should try this. 100% recommend. Cheers

Warpips

Great simple concept, need more variety.

Gotta say, when I saw the trailer at first I thought *well this look like a mobile game * but the game looked great and had some fine music so it slept in the whislist for awhile. Now that I put around 15hours into the game, Id say I was half right. The gameplay is indeed simple to the point Im a bit surprised it doesnt seem available on any mobile device. Not that its not fun or boring. You start on the left , the enemy base on the right, send troops with passive money you get every few seconds ( along with special abilities or *buildings* ) and wait til your army break the base. Thats it. The special abilities like missile strikes ,drone strikes , sandbags or deploy transport units help give you more agency on the field. You can also use buildings to generate more passive money ( they can be destroyed by the enemy ) or use oil barrel for instant cash. The main mode of the game is called Conquest. This is probably where you will spend most of your time playing. You start with basic units on a map with territories to conquer. Each territory is a mission, you can choose what you want to bring with you every single time and you lose every units/abilities/building you use on that mission. This is where another big part of strategy comes in. Every mission you win, the others get harder. Every mission can give you *cards* to renew your deck. So lets say you wanna use 1 Soldier , 1 Sniper and 1 Tank , you will lose them but maybe the mission will give you 2 Solider and 1 Helicopter when you beat it. Its not just about winning a single mission but finishing the map and keeping an eye on your ressources. There is also a small shop to buy troop and a very small talent tree to upgrade your army as you go. If you lose ( or win ) , everything restart like a roguelike. The Endless mode is what you expect and is fun after you finished the main mode. Overall great game, Music is top notch. All this need is more units and terrains ( desert get old ) ...and music ;) !!

SYMMETRY

Interesting but flawed

This game certainly achieve what it wanted. Its tense but slow , making one mistake can be fatal. Finishing the main game on the normal ( Be Brave ) wont be too hard after 2 or 3 tries, but the survival mode can put you in fail states pretty easily right at the start since it randomize the crew you start with. The mechanics are simple, but seem wonky one purpose so its not too easy controlling all your crew and fixing/repair your ship. You can zoom in and out, but some tasks cant be done with one view or the other. There is no action at all as far as I can tell. You only try to scavenge ressource while keeping your crew healthy and fed. I really liked the overall presentation with the sound, music and beautiful visual. The survival map is a lot creepier. The story and crew dialogue is a bit too minimal for my taste and it seem in the end you didnt really learn anything at all. Maybe there is more story if you do certain specific stuff in the main story mode or survival , but after 3 hours I think im done with the game for now. I guess the replayability will come out of if you like the gameplay loop enough to redo runs after run and try to *complete* the survival. Would kinda recommend for the unique experience, but it sure isnt for everyone. I got it on sale, dont regret playing it. I would like a game like this with more depth. Maybe a sequel ? ;)

Immortal Redneck

Giveaway surprise of the year

I never heard of this game before GoG gave it for free and I must admit Im surprised of how good this little roguelite fps is. The name make it sound a bit silly but the very minimal story and short voice lines from the main character make this mix of egyptians/redneck settings work. Music go from ok to pretty good. There is a ton of weapons, different classes with light rpg mechanics that you keep after each runs. Scrolls can change the rules of the game in both good and bad ways. 3 pyramid in total , you unlock one after the other. 7 Floors per pyramid, 2 bosses each. Each pyramid get new enemies/weapon/scroll/bosses. Enemies have fair attack patterns, only bosses get homing attacks. Im not very good at fps so Id say the last pyramid got a bit hard, but a good fortune with the RNG got me through the last boss at around 50hour total , roughly 75% achievements. While the game lack in end-game content , Im happy with the time I had with it. Would give it 5 stars if it had some more end-game like creating custom loadouts and have a 4th endless/customisable pyramid. Story mode Blood style and PvP would just be icing on the cake ;) Recommend, will follow what else the studio create in the future.

Necrosmith

Surprisingly fun little game

While a bit short for a Rogue-lite , I must say for the price and what it offer Im 100% satisfied. Took me around 11hours to *finish* the main questline and got around 90% of the achievements just by playing normally. The game start very passive with basic skeletons parts but quickly turn into a survival situation due to the massive amount of enemies rushing your base. You will need to build the strongest undead from the more unique creatures. My strategy was to keep 1/3 of them as base defenders and the 2/3 as explorers. You can take direct control of your undead, even thought you will mostly be looking at your main base to make sure it survive the timer. You get gold during each game that can be spend between them to buy upgrades and get a little bit of dialogue. While the story is very simple and barely there, I liked the ending and it gave a satisfying conclusion. I guess if I could nitpick something other then the short side of the game , it would be limited music. A bit more tracks would certainly help because after a few hours I just put my own music since the tracks and sound effects do get repetitive. Otherwise, totally recommended and I hope the devs keep adding more *end game* content in the near future !

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Perfect for what it is

45 ish hours of interesting combat, cheesy story and just enough open world to not get bored before the end. There isnt a lot to do other then story missions compared to other big open world but I was happy to move on after doing pretty much all of them. There is a maybe a bit too much of collectible that dont really affect anything once you purchased and beat everything but if you want another 10hours of gameplay and completly explore the cities there is something for you. Driving is very arcade-ish but I didnt have any problem with the controls. Only boats and cars, no flying ! Voice acting and the radio tracks are very good, no complains there. Combat feel like a light version of the Batman Arkham games with a bit more combos ( but no gadgets :P ) You get a few guns, but most of the time you will be fighting melee. There is some pretty brutal scenes in the game but also a lot of humor. The main character go through a lot of stuff and the game make your wonder if he really want to be an undercover cop or actually join the Triads. No sides look good in the end for sure. Surprisingly look great with the lighting effects , even for a 2013 game. Looking at the city from higher up is gorgeous. Hong-Kong fever :) For the price this is sold ( bought it for 3$ on special ) , I think its a must-buy if you enjoy these kind of games and dont expect GTA V level of content and polish.

Mortal Kombat 4

Almost a flawless victory

Game runs fine and didnt get any trouble to make it start. Only problem is the game seem to detect the controller stick and not the directional buttons on the xbox controller. The *easy* fix I found involve downloading 2 mapping software which seem a bit overkill for a game I paid 1.50$ just to see endings and mess around from time to time. Fighting game with controller joystick is just not really precise ( at least for me )
