Ultimate General: Gettysburg

Its like ... Chess!

First the bad thing: As an european, i have not THAT much clue about the american civil war and all the storys behind it. So i have no big emotional bond to the "theme", which makes the game even better! First of all: You start with setting the AI - and thats it. A small screen gives you basic informations about the happenings, the mission and the date. Its a "simple" game, in the sense of chess and its easy basic rules. The controls are super easy and there is quick tutorial for it, without taking you too long "out of the game". Its just refreshing to play a "new" strategy game, without having tons of notes for every shortcut and button on the keyboard. And you can take your time! Just pause the game and think about your strategy. (Dont forget about the moral of your units!) You just "draw" around units to select them, and use the same technique to give them a more specific route. I really have a lot of fun with it right now. It works perfect on my old notebook. The visuals are charming and pleasing. I really dont know what to "not like" here - its cheap, it works stable, you have an good AI and pretty good options. And its just... so fast! No big loading times, no "EPIC" and pseudo-"deep" mechanics... Just a good plain, entertaining strategy game. A big "THANK YOU" to the developer. Good Job!

Nox™

Heart of Darkness meets Diablo ...

... and they both listen to the "Kingdoms of Amalur" Sondtrack. This game is like YOU: Actually great, the best thing that could happen to mankind, loved by people who met you - aaaand overlooked by nearly everyone who should actually "enjoy it". The gameplay is fast paced, the soundtrack really moody. Nox have physics, lightning, secrets, humor and a lot of charme and color! You can FEEL the adventure! I really feel ashamed that i passed this game for so long... If you like western Action-RPGs and just want something NOT generic (You know: Fresh and innovative): This game is for you. (And just for a couple of bucks... ) Sorry Westwood. Sorry Michael Booth. Shame on you (again) EA.

Act of War: Gold Edition

Had a really fun time beating it...

I dont have the GOG Version, but i played this game to death back then. It´s basically THE game for fans of C&C: Generals - and everybody else, who loves the genre. If you ask me: It´s a Gem. It is not "the best" game ever made, but it will entertain and please you. (Atari did not pushed this game enough, so it became kind of "forgotten". Like "Boiling Point: Road to hell"...) This game is about "War on Terror" and Oil. It has a lot of Cut-Scenes with real actors in it and a solid story. The gameplay reminds hard to every known C&C-Game. You will build a small base, move your units from A to B and after a cutscene mostly to C. The tactics are "Rock–Paper–Scissors": If you have the right counterunit, you will win the fight. It´s nothing special. Back then the graphics were superb, but i doubt, that it will make your jaw drop in 2015. It´s still nice though. The highlights are the "Cities" like London or San Francisco. They have a lot of details and the proportions are right. (Your tank is not in the same size of an ordinary building ...) The cheesy story, the nice looking "sets", the soundtrack and the action - i really dont know what to say after all these years. But if you LOVE C&C: Generals you will really enjoy this. I did and it was just pure fun after all. (Never played the Multiplayer.) [The Gold version contains also the "High Treason" AddOn, which is not as good as the original game and a bit harder. But still fun. ]

STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

It works! And it contains the AddOn!

GOG did it. JEDI KNIGHT WORKS! It runs on fullscreen, with no weird colors and screenglitches. And its the complete package, so... THANK YOU GOG! (Again) The game itself: It will not surprise you like "OMG!!!!" - but it will entertain you a LOT! JK is a solid and really well done, good shooter, set in the StarWars Universe. Its really good, you can´t barely do something wrong with it. If you like StarWars, or at least Sci-Fi, this game is for you. And for like 6 $ - it´s totally worth it.

Jade Empire: Special Edition

Regrets.

It is one of those "this is probably good, but i am not sure"- games. Its a bit like "Beyond Good and Evil": Its beyond your average scenario and just pure, plain, addictive fun. If you like Action RPGs and have an open mind to something beyond every day fantasy, this game is for you. It will soak you into a big adventure :) I wish i had bought and played that game earlier. Absolutely worth it´s money!

Banned in Germany...

so i never heard of that game until i found it on gog. i bought it today and my mind is totaly blown away. the amount of graphic violence is jawdropping cause i never expecteded it. that was my first impression. the second thing: the creepy sound. yeah the music gives me chills and sometime it creeps me totaly out. and finally: Its playable on win7 (thanks to dosbox). i really enjoy this little gem and recommend it to every fan of hexen, doom or duke nukem. thanks gog
