DOOM 3

Internationally Cencored Cashgrab

I love GOG. I really do. But Bethesda delivered something really odd with this. See: Doom 3 was uncut worldwide. But the Add-On never got a release in germany. So i know that Quake4 was released here too, also about the Wolfenstein-Discount - but i cant see it. But GOG Germany shows me Doom 3 BFG ... To get a release for the BFG Edition, they made several changes: - Doom 3 + AddOn: Some textures and characters were altered, to look more "demonic". (I also remember the lightning changed here and there too.) - The contained Doom2 is also cencored, since the all Wolfensteins up to RTCW are forbidden in germany. So they replaced stuff in those Doom2 secret-maps. - Overall the performance was horribly off. Doom 3 and the AddOn is something worth 4-5 stars. Its a horror-rollercoaster with great sound, an excellent overall atmosphere and just plain shooter-fun. But the BFG Edition is just ... a cashgrab. And i will not support this. 1.) Wait till GOG Releases the original Doom 3 with its great Add-On as some sort of "Gold-Pack" 2.) Help break the Region-Lock.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition Deluxe

Nearly (!) perfect RPG (3+1 Stars)

This game holds up: It looks good, the music and atmosphere is perfect and you have a lot of "RPG Stuff to do". In 2017 its also possible to play that game with Max-Settings. (And dont forgot about all those mods and tweaks...) Great PLUS: It contains the SHIVERING ISLE Add-On... which is wonderfully weird and beautiful. The world will soak you up, but its possible that you get tired of two things: - Oblivion (Vanilla): 2006 was also the relase of Gothic 3, which showcased a beautifully hand crafted world. Oblivion felt like straight from an Editor. Means, you will have some super generic places and sometimes basic layout of the map.... which is not really THAT bad, but i always prefered the (bit) more authentic feel of Gothic3. - Level Scaling: The thiefes, rats and wolves will be replaced by other creatures (Goblins etc.) when you level up. And they will also level with you. I played it straith up on release and spent hours to find "one of those Ogres or Minotaurs" from the screenshots in the wild. No luck. They appear somewhere between 10 and 15 (or so). I would have liked stronger creatures as "artificial map barriers" which would had you challenged to get better... well... not here. - Map Markers: Over, those times where you had to think for yourself and listen to the NPCs. The markers and logs will do it for you. 3 Stars for the Vanilla (BEAUTIFUL GAME, but it feels too mechanical at some moments) And 1 additional Star for the great content. You will have a lot of fun for your money. Countless hours wandering around that world. Its possible that you will end up installing mods to make that game a bit more challenging. Cheers and have fun :)

Armed and Dangerous®

Lucas Art´s MDK

Like the title says, its basically "a MDK type of game". Just mindless action and fun - and its hilarious in the Lucas Arts way. The characters are fun, the action is loud and there is a lot of destruction - and on top of that: the simply amazing and unique weaponry (Shark Gun). I just thought about playing it again (i still have the CDs here...) and how i miss those kind of games and creativity. It is hard to say anything negative about that game and the only reason i dont give 5 stars out is probably that i dont want to promise too much (?) - But if you know MDK and love it... Well thats something for you. If you want mindless action but in an intelligent way - you should try it too. This is video-game essence: Fun.

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Deluxe

Horrible Controls... at first...

Hear me out: Since most of the reviews tell probably most important stuff, i wanted to address something different. I heard of this game since... ever? It was huge back then. When i was a teenager, a copy of RCT came with a magazine i bought. I thought: "Well, give it a try!" And i was happy to try it, since first "Theme Park" (SNES) and then "Zoo Tycoon" (PC... still playing) gave me the chilling experience of building a theme park. Oh-my-god... I couldnt wrap my head around, well, anything! I was HORRIFIED by the userinterface, the controls and it bummed me so hard, i never touched the game again. I never understood, how people i know could even play this! I am not dumb, but somehow it ... well it didnt worked. Yet i fell in love with the look... So 10/15 years later, im sitting here and writing this. What happened? I saw it on GOG multiple times, wanted to give it another shot. (I gave the CDs away.) Then i did this: Watched a "Lets Play" on Youtube, where a experienced user build a small nice park. And i was baffled: "Is it really that easy?" So i bought the game. Now im playing it, enjoying myself. Yes: The controls are not really THAT intuitive - but it gives you a lot of freedom! And i can see, why that scheme was chosen. RCT is worth your money and time - if you are into charming park builder games. But i want to adress, and i cant stress it more, the controls WILL (if you never played that before) be some sort of hurdle. After you get into it (simply check a LetsPlay) you will understand the love for this.

Impossible Creatures

Classic RTS, fresh Mechanics

This game from 2003 runs perfectly at my Win10-64bit computer. No technical issues... The game itself... surprisingly fun! The heart of the game is the creature-designer. The rest plays like Warcraft3 or Command and Conquer. You gather resources, build some buildings and improve your technology. You can build stronger creatures with increasing tech-level. Its easy and "generic" if you will. The good thing is, you will find yourself pretty fast in the action. If you never played something like this game... there is a good tutorial too, which i recommend for the "Creature-Design-Usage" part. The soundtrack goes well and satisfying and you should give it a try at youtube. This game is really child-friendly, which could be good and negative. For me its a bit negative, since it takes a lot of "drama" from the overall design. If this game was a bit more complex or had some depth in story and maybe a bit more details on the maps, it would have received 5 stars. A really good, enjoyable RTS, for a fair amount of money. (There are also some Mods on the Internet, adding new creatures... Just Saying)

Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Arcade-ish Fun !

Other people said the most important things already... But i want to add: I LOVE this game. I never was a pirates! fanboy and i never played pirates! before. I actually loved the screenshots back then, during previews and gave the game a shot. I bought it ... and it had the "typical" Sid Meier addiction. The best thing is: Its still playable in 2016. The first steps (character, szenario, skills) take like 1 minute - and the game throws you right into the adventure. I play this since release here and then. I even bought the PSP Version ... Its not THE BEST GAME EVER MADE .. but if you like colorful, cheerish, pirate-settings and just want to "do stuff" and conquer colonies and battle ships, without ANY complications (like re-learning the game after a long break) - this game is for you.
