Hero of the Kingdom II

Chill game with...

... Atrocious writing and storytelling. I don't know if it's a translation problem or what, but it's just awful. The game itself is good tho, easy, perfect if you need to lay back in your chair and just click around.

Lovecraft's Untold Stories

Cool ideas, AWFUL design

Imagine this. You spawn in a room, on top of some stairs. You can only move forward because the passage is narrow. As soon as you spawn you get rushed by melee monsters that block your only direction and start hitting you hard. Meanwhile, behind them, a tree thing outside your vision start machinegun firing dark energy orbs. Those inflict damage, a stun that makes you move even slower, and a sanity DOT. If you have something that lets you move faster, you can maybe get out of there and in the open. Too bad the whole area's covered with an absurd amount of obstacles; some of them just block you, other inflict even more negative status just for good measure. Now imagine an entire floor where this kind of situation repeats every 4 or 5 rooms. If that sounds like fun to you, or you you're one of those "iT's A rOgUeLiTe" guys, then I highly recommend you play this game. But for me, my patience has dried. Good riddance.

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION

No gameplay

There are many things I like, most notably the voice acting, dialogue and characters are FANTASTIC. However, what is a fairly interesting setting, is packaged inside a very boring game. There's simply nothing to do but to fly around looking for items and the right NPC to talk to. If the aim of the game was to tell a story with great visuals and compelling characters, it would've been better to make it into a VN.

Venetica - Gold Edition

Surprisingly good

... Aside from a few shortcomings. There is little variety in enemies and, consequentially, in fighting. Not many quests, and those are very simple, some of them even flagrantly copy pasted. Poor writing in general. It's not terrible, but most NPCs speak in the exact same way, so it pulls you out of it a little. In short, it's a good game that needed a little more polish and content.

STASIS

Great visuals

I didn't care much about the "point and click" aspect of the game, but the atmosphere it creates is amazing. Both the visuals and the lore (in the form of your classic log/email) contribute to said atmosphere in their own right. About the horror, it's alright I guess. There are a few moments I found really, really disturbing, but it's not "scary" if that makes sense. It's probably got something to do with the gameplay - most of the time, in a point and click adventure, if you don't do anything you'll be fine. That's probably what gives you a sense of security that diminishes the horror factor. So yeah, pretty good. It's obvious some serious passion went into creating this world, and it shows. I wish they had the same kind of passion for designing menus and option settings tho.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

Mostly good

I'm writing this in the middle of level 9. I like it, I really do. I like the characters, the story, the graphics and the gameplay. But it's too frustrating for even the most patient gamer. In the early levels there are many enemies, but if you ponder for a little while and try different strategies, you can find a window of opportunity and feel good about it. Not so in the later levels, where there the enemies are stationary, are looking at and are looked by at least two other enemies, and are of the kind that you can't lure. And that's normal difficulty. You're expected to do this shit while you get spotted almost instantaneously, among other medal collection related handicaps. I don't know who this game's supposed to be for. I don't know if I just suck at it. But I do know that, while objectively good, it's probably not for me.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Good - But not a good game

It's barely a videogame. Solve puzzle, fight battle. Solve THE SAME EXACT PUZZLE and fight THE SAME EXACT BATTLE. Repeat. It's a good atmosphere and a good concept, but there are other ways to tell a story. Videogames are supposed to be played.

Heroes of Might and Magic® 5: Bundle

Bug riddled trash

Out of the five missions I've played before losing my patience, two were impossible to complete because the game doesn't trigger the events to progress. Hottest garbage I've played in a long time.
