The Coma: Recut

Good little horror game

This game have an interesting theme : the school in korea. You start the game taking your first exam and you will play all along in the deserted, creepy school. The gameplay is simple, you can run, walk and hide. You will have to find your way out this haunted school pursued by a monster. You have three aeras that you will unlock by exploring and progressing in the story. I liked the fact that even given the situation, the school boy you play kept talking about his exams showing the stress the student have to endure. The first aera is pretty simple, the second one is a little more tricky with some dead end, and the third is a maze. This is an good difficulty curve even is the gameplay stay the same giving you a feeling of repetivity. Exploring will reward you with note essential to understand the lore of and to learn more about the character you cross. There is 5 endings and it took me almost five hours to complete one. The weak point of this game is his repetitivity. At first the game is scary and then you get use to it and became less sensible. The animation and drawing are good thought. There is also a lot of backtracking if you want to complete all the secondary objective. This is a cool game with some obvious default but still really pleasant to play. If you like run and hide horror game go for it.

Peace of art with clunky control

I bought this game because he was looking like no other game i played or seen. From that point of view wasn't disappointed. The gameplay is simple, it is a point-and-click where you have to found stuff hidden in the screen. What you need is a good sense of observation beause there is a lot of details and colors. There is also puzzles to solve that aren't complicated if you take your time to think. The sound design is great. The story is thin and explain the title of the game. There is 5 level and it took about to hours to finish. The weak part of the this is the maniability. You need to hold your click and drag to move, so sometimes it's hard to know what to do or where you can go. The dev choose a minimalistic interface to make you enjoy the game and the art, but the consequences are that sometimes you're lost. Another weak point is the end. It's to abrupt and you're like "wait this is the end ?". A really unique game with a basic gameplay not that intuitive. Shor and cheap, you should try it if you're not afraid of bugs.

The First Tree

Simple, maybe too simple

This game is more a narrative experience than a game in my opinion. It's about death and mourning. You play a fox looking for her cubs and at the same time you will heard a man's story about his father and is teenage period. The gameplay is the simple you could have : you run, walk, jump and dig up. That is all. There is 6 level to do, each one with the same principle. You have to dig up some things and found the exit. Since you have no indication, you have to find your way out. There are also collectible which you don't really see the utility and the meaning until the very late. I don't know what to think about it. At the same time i found the game quite empty and boring but also calming and peaceful. I think it's because the level are too big and there is not much to do appart from dig up some thing once in a while and found collectible. The atmosphere is well done, the sound design is good, and with you like the DA you will find the game beaufitul even if you can feel the technicals limitation. The music is incredible and the voice acting is really really good. It took me less than three hour to finish. Some blackspot : at some point in the game, you have to activate three rocks. The fact is that you don't know how. You end up clicking and jumping like a madman until something happen. It's repetitive even if you have knew element of gameplay like a double jump each level are the same. There is no way to save manually. You have to do each level in a row because the only save is automatic at the begining of the each level. It's not a game for everyone. Some will be touched by this game and other won't. If you like narrative experience maybe you will like it. If not you will be bored for sure.

Unique concept for a memorable game

A puzzle like no other. The gameplay is simple : you have four square as a playground and your goal is to resolve puzzle while sailing in drawings, juggle between them, connect them, etc This isn't very difficult if you take your time and pay attention to details. The story isn't that obvious given the fact that the narration isn't linear and also because there is no talking or text to read. Everything goes through the drawing. There is some obvious subject of course but no everything is given on a silver platter. That's clever in those time where everything must be clear and told. The end of the game will let you with questions and curiosity about that element or that element you've seen. It took me 2 hours and a half to finish. Seems short, but not really. The game tell his story and that's it. No need to go further. A smart level design of an unique experience. If you like puzzle game go for it. If not i recommand you try it either way because you will not play or see this type of game twice.

Hollow Knight

Mastered Metroidvania

This is one of my first time playing a metroivania. I'm surely not the best gamer nor the fastest. At first it was hard for me (still is) even facing the simple enemy. I had hard time with the first boss and i dropped the game for several weeks. But something was tickling me. I wanted to go back and try again, two reasons for that : First the artistic direction is great and you can feel the lore and the story behind every thing. I wanted to know more and explore every inch of the map. Second this is a game where you get stuck but you can always progress. You try and try, learn all the pattern and at the end you win. If you're perseverant enought you can do it. The game is huge, each biome you discover is unique with its own inhabitant and enemies. The exploration is satisfying and needed, because every corner of the map hide something : money, powerup, upgrades. You have also hidden bosses that are challenging but always reward you with something useful. At some point in the game, you hit every wall and inspect every corner to avoid missing stuff. The combat is simple and intuitive. You can hit to your right, left, up and down and by progressing you will acquire more mobility by gaining new skills for fighting and exploring. In top of that you have incredible soudracks. Some black spots : the map is huge and you always respawn at the bench you sit on. So you will do a lot of backtracking. The world is so dense that at some point i explored all the map and didn't know what i had to do. So don't be ashamed to check the wiki from time to time if you don't wanna miss some part of the game. I completed the first ending (4 more to go) and completed the game at nearly 60% in about 50 hours. There are free DLC to do, and some part i still didn't do that i will surely. If you like metroidvania game, it's a must play. If you don't afraid of the challenge, give it a try because the game is made for you to progress.

Cute game

This is a one hour short game. It's a point and click in a weird universe. Visuals are quite unique and i really like the sound design. In Simple, light and funny. The story isn't complicated : you have to find your dog. No big question, no philosophy or so. Just a cute little quest without pretension. You will have to solve smalls riddles (some are more intuitive than others). There is no much more to tell. If you like the artistic and this kind of game direction go for it, otherwise don't bother. Some Blackspot : at some point in the game i pressed echap modifying the game resolution resulting all sort of bugs, the game was near unplayable. I recommand you restart the game to solve this.

Tales of the Neon Sea

Beautiful art with interesting ideas

The game is beautiful in terms of lights and colors. It's really refreshing to walk around and try to catch every details. You clearly feels that the dev put all their soul in this game. Mastered pixel art. The story is classic but never predictable. Some great ideas are developed here, like the part with cats. In cyberpunk game we usually focus on the human life style impact. I liked the idea to see how the "animal" world would change. As for the game mechanics, they do the job. You will have to solve puzzles, something under time constraint, to progress and resolve the case. Various gameplay are present, maybe not exploited to their maximum. You can analyse object with a detective view, you have some basic craft (you can only built what is necessary to your progression in the story), you have side quests you can choose not to do, you can play as a cat ! When you have collected all the clues in a crime scene, you will have a collection a gears to put on a pocket watch to rebuild the crime. There are some shoot phase where basically the cursor move and you have to press a key when it's in the right zone. Finally you have environmental puzzles. In the end is a calm game where you read a lot, observe and solve riddles by walking through beautiful pixel art panel. Some BlackSpot : if you want to understand fully the world you will have a lot to read. If you're not a big reader, then you will miss a lot of things. Also, if you're not an expert in english (or chinese) you may some troubles to follow... A really cool game with amazing pixel art and a good cyberpunk story. If you like riddles and reading this is the game for you.

Call of the Sea

Mysterious puzzle game

You play a sick woman trying to cure her illness. When the story begin you are looking for your husband in a charming island. But you rapidly feel that something is wrong. This game take the narration of bioshock through records, letters, pictures and murals and mix it with puzzle phase. In ordre to progress and go deeper into the island you will have to solve more and more complex one. Doing so you will learn more about the island, your husband and also yourself. Therefore the gameplay is very limited, you walk and click on interaction point, read your journal to solve puzzles and progress. The graphics are beautiful. There is something very peacefull to walk in this island (well at the beginning mostly). The story is darker than it's seems and there is cleary an Inspiration from famous english autor that i won't name here. The plot is above average for sure and the voice acting is great. Some BlackSpot : your character, Norah, is a slowwalker. That's coherent with the story because she's sick and can't go running everywhere but it's frustrating in the long run. I experienced a lot of crashes on chapter 3, but it's get better and i think it's because i don't have the good config (GeForce GTX 1050, i5- 7300HQ and 6GB ram) If you like riddles games, mysterious story and narration driven game you should buy it. Took my 7 hours to finish.

Crying Suns

Great game and cool story

It's my first time with this kind of game. There are different kind of ship you unlock by progressing in the story. Each one have is own gameplay and stats. I really enjoy playing this game, trying different solution, trying new strategy to beat the boss at the end. The gameplay make sense with the story and the music is really awesome, put you in the mood to play. You have to cross sectors divided in three, with a boss at each end. The lore side is everywhere and it's pleasant to go on a system and learn something about the universe of the game. The combat system is simple but hard to mastered, you have weapons applying dots, making you invisible, stuning, and each type of ship as a weakness like a rock-paper-cissor game. You can also do planetary mission to collect ressources with a part of random. A must play if you like sci-fi and roguelite game.

Kathy Rain demo

A good demo

1 hour short, this demo put you right in the context. The voice acting is good and the graphics in a pixel style make aren't breaking the immersion. Kathy is endearing and the puzzle part seem's quite mastered. One other solid point is the music ! If you like point and click game and detective story you should definitely give a chance to this demo.
