Orignal turn based strategy trilogy has obviously nice game mechanics, i can agree after checking of manual, especialy Battle Isle 3. Hex battle on low res maps seems very complex. Those are interesting games, but arent if you didnt play similar strategies in early 90s or didnt whole manual before starting any of these games, basicaly unplayable. Controls are truly unusual for modern gamers, trust me. Im skipping them for now. --- Incubation (Battle Isle 4) has a legendary status, thats the reason i bought this pack in 2024 sales to try. Its mostly descripted as a X-COM inspired game with the Aliens movie feeling. Reality is not so cool. After finishing of first 5 mission im disapointed. If this was released before X-COM i would say its a good and pretty original game, but controls are even worse than those in original X-COMs, ugly early 3D acceleratos graphic doesnt help. Its simplistic graphic on simplistic maps doesnt look interesting at all. Missions itself are bad too. You just spawn your battle squad on typicaly small maps and trying to slowly kill all enemy aliens around one by one, cause groups of fast enemies are typicaly pretty stupid, but very fast which means deadly in this game. Trully Incubation is not so complex game as any old X-COM. Characters have no standard inventory management as soldiers in X-COMs. Usualy you just spawn on a map with guns and mostly defending your group from instant attack, shooting, resting, healing and open taking things, thats all. After killing of last enemy on map you win, and go for another mission. This could be nice game if you had graphic accelerator which wasnt so usual in those days, thats a reason i didnt played this in those days. But i cant recommend this today, sadly. I expected much more from classic 1997 strategy game than this. Score: 45%
Do you love psychological horror adventures? Do you like indie 2D horror with wannabe deep touching horror story, game where you can walk just foreward and backward, where 90% of gameplay is just talking with bizarre characters about your mind, horror without fear, where all characters are ugly 2D stickmen with huge head, game with pseudoart ending? Do you? First Distraint was mediocre indie adventure, OK for 1 dollar game. But sequel is a game that wants to look artistic no matter what it costs, but overall with poor gameplay and tacky graphics it looks rather awkward.
Beware! Dont buy in current state. Surprisely, game doesnt start on Windows 10x64 for some various configurations. It doesn't surprise me that an old game doesn't work at Valve, but it's quite sad that even GOG is selling such rubbish product. Whats wrong with GOG? In the old days, you could count on a game from them always works without any problem.
Classic MSX game. Grandpa of all stealth games and father of Metal Gear Solid series. Really impressive games for end of 80s. Games seems to have some better english translation than that horrible one from NES version. Only cons, its not true MSX emulated version, so forget for savestates and quicksave/quickload which is handy feature for really stressfull final part. ----- Even 20 years later i am keep laughing when i see that "czech genius and biologist, Dr. Kio Marv" *Notice for non-czech gamers: Kio Marv is totaly obscure 1000% non czech name. Kojima had to be seriously high when wrote that. :)
