The Evil Within

Top of the survival horrors

Together with sequel The Evil Within is probably the best horror game on market. Bizarre surrealistic world in mind of one guy, scary enemies and unforgottable unbeatable looking bosses, some steath, small sources and lot of ugly animations of your death. Theres great work with bosses. Everytime when you finaly deal with one horrible boss you can bet that soon there will arrive something even much worse what will chase you and after deal with that even deadlier boss wait for you. This going great up to spectacular confrontation with boss in garages nearby end of game. Only two last levels werent so good as rest of the game, it turned into holywood style run and shooting similar to what offer any Resident Evil game. Story is quite confusing to be honest. Truth is, DLCs gives a few answers which main game doesnt, but even after completing of DLCs I cant say that fully understand the story. Also I have to warn that despite other games from 2014 this one doesnt aged well in technical way and looks not so nice as you can see on official screenshots in the shop. Anyway, if you dont require modern graphic standards you will be rewarded by top class survival horror. There are not many horror games which can concurate to this. 9/10

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter

The top mad doomer shooter

If you want some really crazy 1st person shooter like a Doom 2 with just slightly more modern engine and with hundreds to thousands enemies per level here it is. Design isnt perfect; too many hardcore secrets is hiding some tricky ambush on you, too much enemies just teleport in places where you are which is little cheap, sometimes its hard find a way plus levels are mostly quite big and nonstop messages from your personal computer are just annoying. Anyway, crazy humor and enormous battles and hardcore difficulty make together unforgetable experience which you cannot see in modern games. 4.5 / 5 Holy grail of boomer shooters!

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

Cheap, Broken, but funny RPG

Halfopenworld RPG inspired by old Morrowind with focus on exploring like in old Gothics. Setting is interesting, King Arthur legend as a dark fantasy. Funny quest and story. So what can be wrong here? First, game runs under Unity Engine. It doesnt look well, devs trying to hide that with shiny effects, but its technicaly over 10 years back and it needs even stronger hardware than most of Unreal E.5 games. Sound is totaly mediocre. Biggest problem is AI. NPCs staying on one place only, moving to bed at night, thats all, no traveling and so world looks very dead. Enemies arent any better. Wild animals are oddly very slow, monster enemies and even humans stucking very often and are sometimes totaly lost when you dont attack directly from same floor as them. Bad for 2025, this is like a 25 years back. Exploring is nice, sadly unrewarding cause most of treasures and superwell hidden stuff is moreless on your current level, no rewarding exploration like in Gothics. Game is literally flooded by tons of crafting materials, really useful things can be crafted just rarely. Bugs, hundreds of bugs! Smaller mostly, but still game progress can be completely broken if you dont save manualy often and have no luck. This should be in development at least for half year. Translations are mediocre, looks like machine translation mostly. Funny RPG with exploring, ancient AI, technical mess and lot of bugs! Thats Tainted Grail.

Armed and Dangerous®

Hilarious clone of Giants

Simple 3D person action shooter strongly inspired by Giants game, specificaly by it's first campaign, with bizarre monty pythons like characters and dialogs. Crazy characters, crazy weapons, gameplay in exteriors about shooting enemies and destrying their buildings very close to action in Giants, but with better engine. Second half of game is starting to be very tedious, it keep recycling its content, but its worth of finish game once just cause all those hilarious story parts. *** game + * for obscure dialogs and characters 75% Worth of try!

Lorelai

Epic start, and epic fail!

I expected a lot! Beautiful main menu screen with nice and catchy song, stylish. Whole first act is great. Visualy nice stylized 2D graphic, evolution of style from Downfall and Cat Lady. Good music and voice acting, fine writing. Gameplay same as in Cat lady, light walking on 2D areas, taking, using items, talking with people. Minus are crazy graphic requirements for 2D game! You are Lorelai, young girl living with drinking mother and psychopatic macho boyfriend of her mother. Living with them is not easy, but your new job maybe help you to get away from them. But things can be much much worse. Story was great, until you get into the world of Queen of Maggot, character from Cat Lady game. Things make less and less sense. Dialogs and writings are worse and worse. There are optional silly tasks which have no effect on your progress and also few moral choices, which surprisely have no impact on story neither. But lately in game you met with mysterious character which give you very odd task, to do one bizarre thing which is totaly against friendly nature of your character, just cause its for good, and you weirdly accept that! No comment. Story has so many holes that i cant believe that game was complete on release day. Gives me a strong feeling that came out too soon and lot of story things just missing. Good example is puzzle from the end of game, it can be solved by two ways, one easy, second is much more complicated. So I expect some impact, different result or maybe different ending, but game acts same way as if you use easy solution. Really? Ending was fail too, makes no sense, and explain nothing at all. You can get slightly different ending and extra dialog depending on who you saved during game, but in the end game ignores all your moral choices. Why? Awesome first 25% of game, and technicaly also great, but the rest of this game is so flappy. Beggining rocks, so how could quality fall down like this? Lack of money or time to development? Score: 50%

Vaporum: Lockdown

Prequel of the best slovak game

Its very similar to original Vaporum which was amazing dungeon crawler. But not so cool anymore, its more puzzle crawler. If you are not hardcore into dungeon puzzles and finished all 90s crawlers alone with no help then you will suffer here. No joke, difficulty is higher now, not just in combats, but sadly in puzzles. Devs obviously listened to complains of hardcore retro games too too much and this is result. Game will be unfinishable for lot of players without walkthroughts for sure. I gave it up very soon, barely finished half of game cause i hate nonstop playing with walkthrought. + Slightly better audiovisual than in original + still great hardcore combats +/- It keep uses quite minimalistic RPG system with few changes -/(+) less combats and more puzzles - Story and writing keep sucks, but that was never important in Vaporum - Lot of puzzles, but too hard ones, big problem is fact that not just an optional puzzles are hard, but also main unskippable ones

Black Mirror 1

Overrated czech point n click adventure

+ dark athmosphere of old british manor + ok graphics for 2003 + nice 4/5 of story - very slow game - movement of main character, slow interaction with inventory, slow response and talking of all characters, slow interaction with puzzles and even slow manipulation with main menu - you have to be REALY patient for this game - game uses one very unfair trick quite often, some items are visible all the time on game screen, but some of them are interactive and detectable by mouse cursor only since some specific moment or specific action and nobody warns you about this game feature. This led me to complete stuck many times during game, in the finale i was really fed up with this - few annoying puzzles - not so good writing, i would expect much more from "the best czech adventure game ever" - after something which looks like ending comes sudden final episode which makes no sense, seems very rushed and looks like attempt for psychological horror style ending - disappointing! - there is one sudden quicktimeevent which doesnt look like QTE at all, more like a noninteractive animation, if you fail (and you surely fail many times before realise that) you die. This made me stuck for days, devs must hate their players Good only for very patient hardcore adventurers or if played with walkthrought next to you, nice story, too much WTF ending, insanely slow and very tricky gameplay. 2.5 /5 I cant believe this got so high ratings.

DOOM + DOOM II

Classic shooters with bad Windows port

+When buy this you also got DOS versions of old Dooms fully compatible with any current free port like GZDoom! It runs well on modern systems, but have its issues! 1. Censorship - Nazi symbols in secret Wolfenstein levels are consored. Thing lie this 80 yeas after WW2? Also few minor censoring like removed Nine Inch Nail secret or worse, completely redone medkits to green. Why? Bethesda says this is too similar to Red Cross organisation emblem. Censor was on drugs. 2. Bad performance, it need several times stronger machine than GZDoom so beware. 3. No compatibility with lot of Doom WADs and mods. Broken Bethesda account creation/login means no access to those few supported mods.
