Enderal: Forgotten Stories

Not better than Skyrim to me

I have played some time only, but the world does not look very appealing to me. It looks pretty standard, nothing special - and it feels cluttered. There are packs of wolves or bandits around every second corner, so many that it's just ridiculous. I was just fed up of them after a while. It may get better later, but i am in an age where i will just uninstall everything, that does not convince me within the first hour or so, since i don't have that much time to waste anymore.

INDUSTRIA

Aa short linear exploration game

+ good art style and atmosphere + good voice acting + an ok story, although not very deep - unspectacular and non-varied combat - ammo everywhere, but only limited carry capacity, which makes you having to run back to left pickups after every second fight - much too short Devs saying they needed 5 years to develop this. Most of the time probably went into the creation of the models. In the dev commentary that you can enable, they do appology all the time for the quality of the game, saying that they did not have enough time, where overwhelmed etc. Tipp: Make you next game have "oldschool" graphic, so that you have to spend less time with the graphics and have more time available for the content.

System Shock

Dumbed down little sister of Bioshock...

and not really more than that. Yeah, i understand the original game has been released way earlier. Anyway... at some point i was wishing to have chosen the "low" difficulty in at least one of the 4 available game mechanics, since you can set the difficulty for "Combat", "Puzzles", "Mission" & "Cyber" all separately. On normal settings, you'll have no mission marker telling you where to go next, ammo will be rare and the most important thing: enemies will respawn. Levels do generally consist out of maze-like corridors and small rooms that do look very similar. So you'll often end up running in circles looking for the next door that can be opened with one of these key cards that you have found, while fighting off the same enemies you have killed earlier before, wasting precious ammo. I quit after a while, because it just got tedious. If i was about to start a new attempt, i definitively would: - set the "Mission" difficulty to "low", so that a mission marker will be available, telling you where to go next, so that you won't have to run around aimlessly. alternatively (if you like looking for ways to advance in a level) - set the "Combat" difficulty to "low", so that fighting off respawned enemies will be less of a chore Other than that i enjoyed the game for the time i have played it (until the third floor). I only quit, because of the problems mentioned above. I am just not very patient with most games. Although do not expect something great here. It all pretty basic and unspectacular. The atmosphere is there and advancing requires some tactics, i guess these are the games strongest points.

It's ok i guess...

it's just not for me. If you're looking for a neat looking casual rpg with not too much depth or complicated gameplay, this one may be for you. I did not play for too long honestly, because of one thing that turned me off immediately: I was inside a cave and on low health, while 3 spiders approached me - so i tried to flee out of the cave. The enemies will follow you endlessly and while "in combat", you cannot eat to regain health (only with potions - if you have any) nor are you allowed to leave an area - like the said cave i was in. So i was trapped and died. I just don't want to waste time with games, that do not convince me, so i uninstalled and asked for a refund. It's not a bad game though and i am sure it will find it's fans, because it also has it's qualities and does not cost much.

The atmosphere is what makes it great.

I was struggling between a rating of 3 and 4 stars, honestly. The atmosphere is wet and gritty, with good ambient sounds and background music. The graphics old-school, but fitting with some interesting hostile mobs. There are secrets to find and the environments are somewhat interactive. The gameplay and level design is mediocre though, there are other old-school-shooters out there, that do a better job in that regard. There isn't much variety. Its a good little shooter and recommended - worth the price of 17€, if you like old-school.

Sacred Gold

Great 2D action rpg - HD patch available

This is one of my all time 2d action rpg favourites. I first played it when it came out back in 2004 and i wanted to re-play it for years now, but the fixed resolution of 1024x768 always turned me off, when i tried. It was ok back in the day on an old bulky crt monitor, i guess, but nowadays with high-res monitors... I was looking for HD patches several times a couple of years ago, but never found anything. Now i finally did! This HD patch will render the game in 1080p and makes it look so much better! I just started a new playthrough, to revive the old times. Here's the link to the patch: https://www.gog.com/forum/sacred_series/german_language_hd_patch_without_rebalancing_here_are_the_links Enjoy!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition

One of the top open world rpgs ever

Not much else to say. I mean, there are always people that don't like something that you do. The same applies to Skyrim. But if you are only a little interested in an open world action rpg set in a dark and moody world, with almost total freedom in what you can do and where to go/ explore, you must at least try this. Plus, there are thousands of mods available. So no matter what you may think could have done better, you'll probably find a mod somewhere that adds what you are looking for.

Singularity™

Raven did better

Well, like everything else - it's a matter of taste. For me, this game is somewhat mediocre. Upgrading skills and weapons is not really necessary, you could play through just fine without it. Maps do feel pretty much the same, most of the time. Not much variation and very linear as well. There are quite a few areas where you have to fight annoying little insects, which explode on impact (i personally hate small & fast enemies) and the story is told mostly by notes and voice records, which are scattered through the maps. Not very entertaining, if you ask me. It's an OK game to buy, if it's on sale, but Raven has done better before.

Death's Door

Recommended Action-Adventure

Great atmosphere, music, art-style and gameplay full of action and exploring. Reminds me a bit of 'Castle of Illusions' sometimes. This is a game that you rarely see on PC, but is more common on Nintendo consoles i guess. So grab it. And preferably use a gamepad to play.

The Journey Down Trilogy

I liked it.

And i am very picky when it comes to point and click as i do not have the patience to solve riddles if the setting and everything around does not appeal to me. All i want to say is, that part 1 is a bit short and feels more like a demo, while part 2 and 3 are much longer. The game was fun to play, the riddles not too hard and the ending pretty cool. There is humour, action and some darker tone of atmosphere. It was made by a small indie studio and these guys took their time - over 10 years. But this was because they wanted to do it right. And i think they did. Give this a try if you like adventures.
