You'll probably die a lot and if you do, you'll have to redo the level from the beginning, since there is no quick- or autosave. This is a very nice old-school shooter with film sequences that have the visual style of Michael Bay movies like "The Rock" and such. It is fast and hard. Don't play if you suck at shooters or if you do not have any patience nor the mood to repeat and try some levels several times. But if you're in for a challenge, this game can be recommended.
The time this came out, there was another game called "Vietcong" which got much more attention and better reviews than this piece of software here ever got. Although "Vietcong" was a good game in it's presentation and everything, it was rather linear and scripted. LoS:V throws your character into the jungle (mostly as a lone wolf - unlike "Vietcong") and you are free to explore the levels as you see fit to survive and fulfill the missions. No, it's not an open world game, but you don't have to follow a scripted path as well. The graphics have been pretty decent at the time this came out, even though it was an budget title, which you'll probably notice at some spots, but another big plus that always got me deep into this game, is the great atmosphere and the pretty good, although limited soundtrack. To not make it even longer than it already is, just let me say that this has to be one of my favourite games when it comes to vietnam themed games and if you like stealth gameplay and do not expect a AAA quality game, this one is recommended.
SoF2 had great, realistic graphics at the time of release and still features some of the best gore in a videogame ever. This is a great game, if you're into hard, realistic action and firefights and like a darker tone in general. It was made with the Quake III-Engine, which had it's strenghts in displaying neat indoor- and urban areas. Therefore the rural parts did always look pretty bland. But the rest looks good, even today, except of the NPCs maybe. Yes, it's not a perfect game. Sometimes the AI behaves dumb, the stealth parts may also get annoying sometimes, but all in all i had a lot of fun with it. You'll get many levels to master. And since the game has tons of options for the user to set up, you can just adjust it to your liking. This includes such things as difficulty, how many times you will be able to save within a level, bullet inaccuracy on/off and on and on. You may also look for a singleplayer bonus level which is named "Assassination Routine" and can be downloaded for free.
...get the unofficial patch 1.3 - which will not only fix bugs and level design issues, but will also let you (optionally) save whenever you want plus you can choose to make the sidekicks invincible or even remove them from the entire game to play it through all alone.
