Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition

Unexplained game mechanics.

This game piqued my interest because of its premise as a (bloody) sports game with monsters. Even though I played the tutorial many times, the game still leaves a lot of it's mechanics in the dark and expects to player either to either spend hours watching tutorial videos or grasp them through trial and error. Unless if the developer implements an in-depth tutorial, this is an easy pass.

Timespinner

Amazing (RPG-)metroidvania.

I'm amazed that nobody mentioned the hidden RPG aspects of this game. You can choose between 16 different weapons (orbs) that completely change your combat style and level up individually. Also the player has RPG stats that affect combat and can be affected by the character's level and equip-able armor. Additionally a customizable familiar companion helps you during combat in its own way (which also levels up). Lastly, there are multiple endings based on the player's choice. Having said that, the cons are: -The time-stopping ability was underwhelming. -For a game so focused on its RPG customization, It's disappointing that the character's appearance doesn't change when changing armor. -Hard mode unlocked only after finishing the game on normal mode. TL:DR amazing game with hidden RPG depths which fit its metroidvania theme ,also, killer soundtrack.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning FATE Edition

5/5 as a game, 2/5 as a remaster.

The game by itself is simply awesome. Quests are everywhere and every single one(even the side-quests) offers a player-chosen outcome (like Fable). Also some notoriously buggy quest were fixed. Lastly, this game offers an insane amount of content (for those wondering about the time/$ ratio). The combat is by far the game's highlight, you can mix and max between many active and passive skills to create your own fighting style. Also, the new hard mode fixed the original game's greatest flaw which was its lack of difficulty. Having said all that for those who have played the game on its previous iteration, this "remaster" does not offer much apart from a(n arguably deserved) new difficulty mode, some bug fixes and being DRM free (on GOG at least), hence the low score. TL:DR if you have played this game before the "remaster": 2/5, otherwise: it's a pure 5/5.

Brigador: Up-Armored Deluxe

Customizable, fun and replayable game!

Great variety of vehicles, weapons and maps! Every single object on each map is fully destructible. Enemy variety is great. You can complete each mission\s objectives either by brute force or careful, strategic approach (though the later is far harder to achieve) depending on your vehicle's kit.

Divinity 2: Developer's Cut

Amazing potential ruined by bugs.

This is one of the few games where I (surprisingly) felt like a superhero e.g. transforming into a dragon, dodging projectiles by jumping 8 feet above the ground and then slamming enemies with a longsword. It was amazing... ...However, this game is extremely buggy. Firstly the game wouldn't even run out of the box, I needed to install an old PhysX version in order to be able to make it past the initial loading screen. Even then, I would seldomly CTD on specific cutscenes.Lastly, the game was stuttering when in combat (even on lowest graphics, on a 3 year old gaming rig). Honestly, selling this game in such a state is just unacceptable. If they fix those bugs and compatibility issues with newer rigs (highly unlikely at this point, but one can dream), this is a *pure* 5/5 game. Only buy on during a deep discount.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin

Dark,atmospheric.

Never played the original quake so my opinion is nostalgia-free. For me this is the result a late 90s shooter with Dark Soul's atmospheric ambience combined. Every weapon has unique properties and *feels* powerful. All in all, an amazing game.

Metro 2033 Redux

Mediocre.

I expected a on-rail shooter with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-like setting, the latter was true but the gameplay consisted of forced and badly designed stealth segments which ultimately made me drop the game altogether. Probably worth a playthrough on easy mode for the story.

Anachronox

A badly aged and flawed old game.

The game has some very interesting aspects and a good plot, but due to many bugs and bad design choices it is not worth your time, a better choice would be to watch a walkthrough video. * Slow combat, like annoyingly slow. There are large delays between player/NPC turns which turn combat into a chore. * There are many loading times that apparently not even new hardware can hasten. Also, during those loading times, you are just staring at your character as there isn't even a bar that indicates the loading progress. * Much jankiness, especially when moving you will notice that movement animations clip a lot. * Last but not least, bugs. My character got stuck at least 5 in about 6-7 hours of playtime, adding to the frustration is my first and second cons (slow combat and loading times). Honestly, I've had more fun with Two Worlds (a game notorious for its jankiness and bugs) than this one.

ELDERBORN

Great game except the cheap difficulty.

The combat is fluid, weapons are unique and the level design reminds me of old doom games which great (clear enemies, find key, proceed to next zone). However, the game suffers from cheap difficulty tricks (i.e. one-shot abilities which can't blocked, being used consecutively thus leading to RNG-related deaths) which are magnified during boss fights, which is just bad gameplay design IMO. Having said that, I enjoyed (most of) my time in this game and kudos to the developers for creating a unique (albeit flawed) game.
