I will only on the single player content as I've never bothered with multiplayer on this game. The graphical and gameplay improvements were good enough to justify the price (split screen is the icing on the cake). However, the included expansions have absolutely insane amount of content and add at least another 30-40 hours. The only con I'd add is that they lack the horror-ish atmosphere of the OG campaign. On a sale this game is an absolute steal for retro shooter fans.
Pros: -Insane variety in mech customization. -(only available via Call to Arms DLC) melee Mechs/weapons! -Virtually limitless replayability in career mode. -Great gfx. -Great controls. -Online coop (some tactics like rushing to a base raid with light Mechs is simply not viable with AI). Cons: -AI teammates: not dumb per se, just don't rely too much on them saving the day, unless if they are piloting some ultra-powered assault mech.
The game itself is a pure 5/5, as the plot is just timeless and the hightlight of the game. The exploration is similar to a Link to the Past (albeit in a darker setting). Lastly, the combat is great (albeit broken) and has many spell variety. Still as a product it's a 3/5 because it requires Verok's GL Wrapper (a COMMUNITY developed fix) to function correctly, devs shouldn't put broken games on the shelves and ask the community to fix the games for them.
Got the infamous black screen after intro cinematic. Tried many community fixes, compatibility changes etc. Nothing worked. One has to wonder how this company keeps releasing games in such a broken/unplayable state without repercussions.
+ Nightdive did a great job in remaking this game, the improved visuals are great and a progression-stopping bug that existed in the original game is now fixed. + Great weapons. - Sadly the archaic game design is still there. Maze-like maps that frustrate the player and needlessly stretch game-length. Verdict: If you never played the original game on its release, wait for a sale as it's a risky purchase.
