The game is really fun and has lots of suprises all along, until the end. As you progress in the story dungeons, you will progressively unlock new "stuff". At some point, you will unlock the taberna which gives access to older dungeons with an added challenge. Later on you will unlock a totally random dungeon, based on the active party level and then you can still increase its difficulty. And there is more to discover even after you end the campaign, but I won't spoil here. There are 14 classes, different nice mechanics, like modifying the random encounter rate, on the fly, in a dungeon. The riddles are relatively straightforward, which is a good thing to me, as I'm fed off those intricate and often illogical ones we find in the adventure games like the Pathfinder ones. So all in all, if you want a fun, not too complicate, but not so simple either, considering all the classes and game mechanics at play, this game is for you. The only, downside I would say, is the winning streak mechanic. If you want to exploit it, you will end up spending some time throwing rock and walking aimlessly, just to trigger fights after fights. It is not mandatory at all, you can exit the dungeon and go again to restart the exploration etc ... You will only loose the benefit of winning streak.
I did not event play the game. Soon after I bought it a patch was released on steam. 2 Weeks later the patch was still not uploaded on Gog -> I refunded. The dev/publishers completely ignored the question both on steam forum and their discord. I want to play the game so I will certainly by it later when I'm confident it is completed (that will certainly not be within 1 year or 2).
The game seems nice and pleasant, I played it for few hours, until the 1st battle in the temple (not counting the tutorial battle). I'had like to go further, but ... It is very very slow and unresponsive. While this is not a big deal while exploring, it makes combat unpleasant and way too long. This is not due to graphics settings, I reduced them to minimal, even the resolution in 1024x768, to no avail combat is still sluggish. I also tried to set compatibility mode in windows xp. I tried windowed mode ... My computer can run Witcher 3 and Ashes of the Singularity (to name a few) at full graphics, and I just updated the drivers (25 april 2017 drivers for a game from 2013 should be ok, right ?) So as it is now, and until there is patch to make it playable on a modern computer, I can't recommend this game.
During one of the last missions, I cant' save the game any more and every other turn the button stops responding. In other words: it is impossible for me to finish the game. Thankfully I got it for free, but I can hardly recommend it in those conditions. For the rest the game is really nice. I love the (dark) setting, the gameplay, the characters all have a story, you are in a world where people survive more than they live. I love such post-apocalyptic worlds, we do not see enough of them in games.
The game is very nice. There are lots of easter eggs which I found very funny. There is also a kind of "old couple" relation between Katarina and Van Helsing which is quite funny. There are many options to build up characters, nice additional stuff to standard H&S (Chimera, Missions for general. Well those 2 boils down to some clicks, but I see it as a plus). From time to time you get to play a tower defense minigame which is quite fun (it is not mandatory, you can send your soldiers, but I personnally found this quite fun). The problem is ... with their login system. You can play off line, that is ok. But if you want the adventure mode, you have to play online (you can't use an offline character for this, so it must be a truly online character from start to end). And their login system has lots of issues. See my post here for the details: https://www.gog.com/forum/van_helsing_series/issue_with_neocore_login_system
