If you thought Arx Fatalis was great but janky and unfinished, this will at least tease you with *less* janky and *more* finished, but it's still not done. If it released in its current state at its current price I'd warn people away. I'm betting that they keep working on it to finish it though. After some more work, this game will finally answer the promise of a true modern Ultima Underworld, or Arx Fatalis 2 if you prefer. There's no question this is Arx Fatalis DNA, but there's also some Thief stuff, like water arrows. The weird dreamlike quality of the world feels a little Japanese/FromSoft. Some reviewers suggest there's no bugs. There's bugs. * The item placement system can break, and items will permanently vanish if you attempt to drop them, which can only be resolved by restarting the application. * Enemy pathfinding is poor. It's common for creatures to get caught on corners doing a Jacob's Ladder twitch forever. Some can't go down stairs. * Ledge grabbing sometimes breaks, esp. from the water, causing an infinite loop of grabbing and falling back down until you try another spot. * Lots more. Some other things that bothered me and might bother you: * I'm pretty sure some locks CANNOT be picked? Which is fine except there's no visual indication of the difference between pickable and non pickable. The difficulty should be labeled. * Enemies seem too tanky. Feels like chopping down a tree. * I found two areas of the game that play non-diegetic music in the ambience channel. I have music turned off for maximum immersion and found this distracting. * Bowmen are stronger than melee foes in melee bc they can stand and shoot you to death faster. * If there's a way to kill slimes in the early game other than tedious cheese strats, I don't see it. * Blunt Weapons is a trap. Do Slashing. Imperfect, needs work, not worth it yet, want to support tho hoping it will get done. Still happy with it but I'm biased bc I'm starved for this kind of game.
