RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business

More RoboCop? Yes, please

I loved Rogue City and as soon as I finished it I bought this one, it's clearly more like an expansion to RC, and robably some greedy suit at Nacon was huingry for more money and decided to sell it as an standalone game, but that's neithere here or now. The game is great, a few changes iover the base game, the psychology skill is gone, whcih doesn't detract from the experience, you'll still have dialogue options and will be able to roleplay as Robo. You start with some PBCs for teh auto 9 and the first perk in the skills unlocked. That will save you some points and give you access to teh basic skills, and at first you are gonna need them because the game starts throwing armored enemies at you from the start. But the difficulty doesn't stay high for long, after certain point on the story you get access to the 7.2 PBC and it's outright broken, you'll be chewing through enemies like they are made out of paper, making the final stretch of the game more like an sepctacle, a beautiful show of particles and gore. The new weapon is also a highlight, it feels great to use and will never disappoint dispatching groups of enemies. The story is interesting, but the main villain is so machiavelan that I wonder if he actually was in the middle of a manic episode because his actions are so outrageously he might as well be an art school reject. In the technical side of things it was a hit and miss, hit because I was using the exact same settings as in RC , but I didn't get the weird ghosting from moving objects I had before (no, I am not using farme generation), and miss because I kept having microstutters in some places (probably some sort of loading delay idk) that did not happen in the first game. I also got stuck on teh scenary once and one enemy with a minigun bugged on me and I couldn't hurt him even tho he kept pestering me with the minigun, both events required a checkpoint load, so there was no harm done. I recommend it, specially if you liked Rogue City.

RoboCop: Rogue City

Best RoboCop game ever

First person shooter that is true to the source material to the point that you can just feel the whole experience as an interactive movie, specially becuas ethe visual presentation and the sound design are fantastic, I got an old GPU and was in awe as how photorealistic it can look at times. I love the meatiness of the action, Murphy is an absolute uniit of a tank so it feels great to just sit there gunning down criminals by the dozens. This is a true Roboxcop experience, I gotta substract pooint s since there's a zone that is reused 3 times, which is not ideal, but this is not a AAA game with hundreds of millions of dollars in budget so I can easily look past that. I was happily surprised by the quality of this game, definetively worth playing.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Difficult, relentlees and I love it

Not a direct sequel to hollow knight, but a worthy succesor in teh franchise, the combat is turned up a notch, witha freat variety of enemies and bosses, a charm system that is overhauiled to include crests, which change the way your weapon and your bind (healing power) work, Hornet is fast and nimble, with more traversal options than the vessel from HK. Enemies also got an overhaul, a lot of them play more onn the defensive or try to position tehmselves in a way they can attack you more effectively, which is very annoyibg with flying enemies. All bosses do 2 points of damage now, and this is probably my biiggest gripe with the game, as gaining extra masks is hard and ineffective when a boss can down you in a handful of hits, this makes boss battles a lot harder. Despite this, only one of the bosses is an absolute chore to get through, as teh walkback to the boss room is long, dangerous and on top of that you gotta fight waves of small mobs before spawning the boss (yes, it's the Bilewater boss, with a the Hunter's March being a close second). There are few things that are missable in the game, but the biggest one is the "extra bad ending", that requires beating the final boss while infected with a parasite, which makes the fight super difficult, so be aware of that if you plan on doing a completion run. The game is beautifully drawn, with fantastic music and a fair amount of challenge, is totally worth the price. Remember, if you get "stuck" in a boss fight, take a rest, come back later with fresh eyes and thumbs, and explore other places in the map, it certainly helps.

Dr Livingstone, I Presume? - Reversed Escape Room

Escape room done right

I like how every rom it's its own self contained puzzle, so you won't need to backtrack, I love how they spared muy sanity with the musical puzzle, as someone with tinitus and zero musical skills it was refreshing to find you can just turn on labels for the notes. Some puzzles had me scratching my head, but once I figured them out all fell into place, it was great fun to play this game.

The Signal From Tölva

feels a bit unbalanced

A firsdt person exploration shooter, it doesn't do much different to other similar games, your weapons have infinite ammo, but the reload times are so long thet you'll spend more time reloading than shooting. Also, engaging an enemy will alert ewvery eenmy in the vecinity, whcih wouldn't be sio much of an issue if they didn't have laser focus accuracy, strafing or cicle strafing won't help you at all, your only hope is to find cover and take shots at the enemies, but them they all bombrush you like rabid zerg, if you get in a fight in an open area you'll be dead in seconds. And if that wasn't annoying enough, more than once I was focusinmg on capturing a base or clearing an enemy group just to get ambushed form behind by another group form a different faction (that is also hostile). Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with the setting, but the combat is just frustrating, not worth sticking around any longer.

Heretic + Hexen

*Chef's kiss*

Just the right amount of modernization in these old classics, it still feels classic, but it has a lot of new options to tinker around, and the new soundtrack is fantastic (it's optional, of course). And it all came for free for those of us who already had the base games, I hve had zero issues running it so far. 10/10, Nightdive didi it again.

Syberia II

It's alright

This is a direct continuation of the story and design philosphy of the first game, good old point and click mechanics. It is a good game, but I feel like it didn't reach the heights of the first one, it still has funky logic and such, but there's less of an emphasys on the absurdity of a abandoned clockwork civilization inhabitated by unhinged automatons. Also, the whole "Kate is missing but we are gonna talk about her like if she was a dangerous criminal at large" is pretty jarring. Most of the puzzles are logical and not too hard to get through, even by brute force, like that whole "melt the ice around the ark". Still, There were a couple that I had to look up because I couldn't figure them out (how was I supposed to know I had to shoot that ice stalactite? There's zero indication that is even a interactable object). Overall, it's good, not as charming as the first one, and not as frustrating as other old PaC.

Urban Chaos

Nostalgia can't save it

This game is pure late 90s yank, of course graphics are dated, everything is a cube or a pyramid, the main character looks like a stick figure with noodle arms, story is full action hero silliness with the usual 2000 apócalypse (I love it), music is fitting for the era, draw distance is low and levels are semi open platformig challenges while you hunt for the objective and secret collectibles to improve your stats. Most of the ingredients to have fun are here, but then there are the controls. Oh dear gods, the controls are horrendous, stiff, unresponsive, with tank controls, and nonsensical button combinations for different commands. Saying it takes a while to get used to them is an understatement. Don't bother using a controller, even if you use a stick you are stuck with the tank scheme (no dualstick support) and the sideways rotation is too sensitive as it comes. I had to use a controller wrapper to emulate keyboard strokes with the controller to get a bearable turn speed. But it gets worse, controlling vehicles is a nightmare, you cannot speed up and turn at the same time, trying to drive around corners is a challenge all on itself and apparently cars are held together by their painting because they take damage by just grazing a wall or a fence. This is a game that deserves a modernization. it would be fun to play if the controls didn't get on the way of everything else. Also, it can be run on widescreen, but it requires a third party patch you can find in the pcgamingwiki.

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech

Nice card based RPG

Another great entry in the Steamworld series, with nice presentation and an engaging combat that uses a good variety of syynergiees to deal with yyour foes, my only issue with the combat are those enemies that reflect part of the damage you deal to them, there's no way to nullify the effect so my poor Milly KOed herself more than once with the cleave attack. There's a little bit of grind if you wanna upgrade your favorite cards. but it wasn't that bad. The story is pretty straightforward and the characters are not deep, but it gets the job done. Unfortunately the RPG mechanics are minimal, your cards and a couple of gear pieces is all you get to customize your characters. There are no dialogue options or branching paths. Overall, a good game, and a great foundation for further improvement.

Valfaris

Controls too stiff for my liking

Not a fan of the control scheme, thye lack of free aiming, I guess they were thrying to nail the run and gun styyle, but the character is too slow for that, at least it doesn't disappoint in the presenattion department.
