Spirit of the Island

Now fully updated at time of this review

I enjoy it more than most of the early access games I play. I keep buying them, especially early access RPGs! This is a lot of fun for fans of games like Story of Seasons or Stardew Valley but in full Animal Crossing-looking 3D! It's obviously still in development but seems to be going in the right direction. The developer emailed me back after I asked about when they would be updating the GOG version to be the same as the Steam version. Then they updated it two days later! I'm about to set off to fight Pirate Bosses and get loot, and items for crafting. My farm is slowly giving me enough money to get more fuel. And with updates, it looks like crafting will be easier or more balanced. All in all a fun farming, adventure, and tourism sim with RPG elements. Oh, and make sure you craft keys early on for the chests scattered on the islands. I got golden items, plenty of gold, and useful crafting ingredients. I'll update this review as I play, and as the game develops.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete

One of the better D&D video games

I'm a big fan of the series, especially the first game, but this one is still quite fun. I was annoyed by the in-game camera at first. Then I adjusted it in options, and it's much better now. The number of races and classes is staggering. The combat is satisfying though a little dated versus a newer dnd game like Solasta. Though that uses the 5th edition, this 3.5 and more complex in many ways. The main game is fun, and the first expansion is a lot better. One of the better dnd video game stories. I still gotta play more Storms of Zehir, but from what I played, it's a fun, simpler experience. Right now I'm playing the Pool of Radiance fan-made remastered module. Loads of fun! I can see myself playing loads of modules. As well as re-playing the game and expansions with different builds.

Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Very fun 5E combat

I got this game around when it first came out because of the licensed DnD rules it's using. I wasn't expecting a Baldurs Gate-level story, so I wasn't disappointed. And the combat is quite excellent. I have experienced things like kicking goblins off cliffs, shooting arrows at a flying lizard monster, only to have them crash to the ground. All quite interesting and refreshing. As a tabletop DnD player, most of these battles would require giant elaborate terrain setups with lots of miniatures. I think my DM would have a panic attack trying to do such things, so it's nice having the ability to have giant elaborate battles on pillars and whatnot while jumping using the acrobatics and athletics skills. It overall does the basics of 5th edition justice, but most of all the combat. I'm still only maybe 10 hours in. I'll update my review if anything changes. Overall, lots of fun. And I'm looking forward to the April 2022 DLC.

Solasta: Crown of the Magister Primal Calling

Should be free, or cheaper

But I'm a sucker and bought it because I wanted a barbarian in my party. I'm hopeful that future DLC, after the April one, will add an extra race or class. I know it's limited by the dnd basic license, though. I'd love to see the Warlock class and the Gnome race.
