Farlanders

Tedious and complicated

I admit I only spent half an hour playing, but it's just not for me.

XIII

DOES NOT SUPPORT A GAME CONTROLLER

A classic game from my childhood that I was looking forward to reliving. But I've discovered the game does not recognise controller input and I find FPS are terrible with mouse and keyboard. Apparently you can use XPadder third party software but I'm not purchasing dodgy software just to try and make a gamr work. Uninstalled straight away =(

Blades of Time

Terrible

I really wanted to like this game - it could have been great if some effort was put in. For a cheap price (bought on sale) it has been mostly fun hence two stars instead of one. Give it a go if you like, just don't expect much. It took about 8-10 hours to get to the end boss so I got my money's worth. Sloppy, rushed development makes the game look and feel tacky. The voice acting is shockingly bad. The story is barely existent. The things the main character says is laughable and barely fits with the situation. I found it a tedious slog at times - hack, slash and shoot you way through a room - camera pans on exactly where you need to go (which was obvious anyway) and repeat. The main fun was the not so hidden treasure chests to equip new gear. As for the end boss, even after Googling how to defeat him I gave up and didn't care that I couldn't be bother to spend half an hour chipping away at his health.

Mirror's Edge™

Tedious and annoying

The concept is unique and fantastic - I wanted to enjoy this game. I'm not bad at platformers or FPS, but after a couple of hours of constant dying only to do the same section again and again, to somehow survive only to die at the next section while battling the awkward controls left me annoyed. I've uninstalled the game and count myself lucky I bought it while it was on sale. Sorry!

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

Really enjoyed playing

I bought this game on sale and got way more than my money's worth - I really enjoyed playing a lot (I only play the campaign). Being a big fan of Command & Conquer or Red Alert games this appealed to me. The difference being in this game is that you don't build bases as you're always on the move through the desert sands. After some adjustment and restarting missions I got the hang of the game and on medium difficulty I was challenged but enjoyed playing - be warned that resources are not unlimited so plan ahead! I really love the background chatter of the crews, the music and arabian desert atmosphere to the game - it gave me a sense of an army of people, not just mindless units. Also, the fact I carried over my units and strike groups from each mission was really interesting and made me want to keep every unit I could alive. I see other reviews state the game crashed or wouldn't run, but I had no problems (Windows 10 64-bit with Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and GeForce GTX 1650). For £3 I totally recommend this game!

Ruiner

Nostalgic little gem

Blade Runner meets Ghost in the Shell. Loved the nostalgic feel of the Japanese neo/cyberpunk future reminiscent of some 90s films and games. Some elements work very well, the cartoon 2D anime elements, the EPIC music, the full head mask visuals. Some elements unpolished or completely unfinished making me feel the game wasn't completed. I finished it in a few evenings and althought the ending is horrifyingly short and a big let down, I enjoyed the game on the whole. Bought while on sale, otherwise not worth £15.99!

Interstate '82

WILL NOT RUN!

Pressing play and nothing happens. GOG is trying to run it and (as mentioned on forums and other reviews) the i82stubz.exe is launched but nothing is happening beyond my PC resources being eaten. I see some complicated workarounds online but I refuse to download dodgy third party files to hack the game install. Sort it out GOG, waste of time and money - luckily I didn't pay much for it! Running Windows 10 (64-bit) with a decent amount of RAM and nVidia graphics. =( =( =(

Dark Future: Blood Red States

Could be good - but crashes too much!

I bought this game yesterday (on sale for £5.99) and found it interesting and different, I like the post-apocalyptic synthpunk atmos and soundtrack (Mad Max meets Terminator?) and the on-the-run micromanagement is pretty unique. Please be sure this is not a traditional racing with guns game, it's an RTS about slowing time to micromanage your next moves to accomplish your goals (mostly, kill other vehicles) But - it's CRASHED about five times now, each time an 'Unreal Engine 4 Crash Reporter' appears so I've sent the report. My PC is a pretty decent spec so I doubt it's the machine. Aside from this, the cool retro synth soundtrack is the ONLY soundtrack on each level, there is no voice acting, no cut scenes, just text based story and repetitive levels. Also, while the increased fuel prices adds a goal and drive to the game (no pun intended) it also added a lot of pressure that meant you just want to complete your goals instead of enjoy leveling up your vehicle. It's a fun game on the whole, just a shame it keeps crashing...

In Sound Mind

Stunning - one of the best games

Silent Hill meets Alan Wake would be just a flavour of this extremely well written game that will be on your mind for days in between playing it and wanting to find out more of the fantasic story. As you play, you'll find all questions are answered and yet none of them. Expect suspense, thrills, action and a unique story. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, well done!

EVERSPACE™

Worst gamepad control mapping

This is such a fun and addictive game, but it's too complex to play with mouse and keyboard so I use my gamepad. Yet for some reason you can't map the flight controls to the thumbsticks as you want them and it's ruined the game. Sadly I'm uninstalling it...
