Fantastic sequel

I'm so glad I didn't pay attention to the "professional" reviews of this game. Every mainstream games media outlet I read gave this game mediocre reviews, calling it a poorly-made Dark Souls wannabe, claiming that it's linear, and overall saying it's a mess. I almost didn't buy it, but changed my mind at the last minute, and I'm glad I did. The gaming media are wrong. Darksiders 3 isn't trying to be Dark Souls, just like Darksiders 1 wasn't trying to be The Legend of Zelda. Instead, Darksiders 3 takes some design cues from Dark Souls and builds it's own uniquely Darksiders game from there. And man, is this ever Darksiders. Everything you've loved from the previous games is there, from the grimdark tone and story, to the unique visuals, fun characters, and exquisite non-linear world. Exploring is a pure joy, and the combat is fast and aggressive and punchy. Light puzzles provide a bit of a breather every now and then, and the bosses are fun without being a chore. I'm loving every moment of it so far, even more so than I loved the previous two games, even with the various issues I've run into. And, yes, there are issues. The camera is pretty bad at keeping the action in view, especially in enclosed spaces. Combat with more than two enemies can get pretty rough, depending on how you are positioned. The controller bind for healing, Up on the d-pad, is awkward to get to. I even had a hard crash, which occured a minute or so after a difficult fight that took me over a dozen tries to win, which meant that I had to redo that fight over and over again. Argh. But these problems haven't stopped me from loving this game. If you come into this expecting Dark Souls because all the reviews out there seem determined to compare Darksiders 3 to that game, you'll be disappointed. But if you're looking for more Darksiders, a game series that takes risks with every iteration, and produces a unique and entertaining result, you'll be as happy as I am.

Hopefully we will see more

I wanted to like Darksiders 3 with every fiber of my being, I love the theme, I love the world building they've done and I've played through both previous darksiders games 3 times each. I would really, really like for them to release a 4th game in the series and perhaps a 5th tying the story all together. However, if they will judge the series by this game's performance I fear we will never see that happen. So the game: DS3 looks like a AAA title but plays like a cheaply made game. The combat is both stiff and fluid at the same time depending on what combos/stances you're using, which means that some attacks just end up not being worth it and you'll never use them once you get new toys. The feel is meaty and hitting things feels good and the design and animations of attacks is visually pleasing. The biggest problem and biggest flaw has to be the dodge mechanic which is the worst in the series and maybe one of the worst I've seen in this type of games. Overall the combat feels dumbed down compared to Darksiders 3 and fighting multiple enemies is frustrating and annoying as many of the attacks are made to home in on one spot and the camera and animations make it difficult to manevour around. Unfortunately, the combat is often made or broken by the agility in combat, which in this game is very poor. The world itself is OK, there is nothing particularly impressive and levels are fairly linear. The story presentation was confusing, even for myself, and I'm not sure how much somebody who's never played the previous two would understand. The dialogue is subpar and some of if feels out of place at some points but you're probably not playing the game for that anyway. Overall it actually saddens me to give this game 2 stars as I really want it to succeed, unfortunately, big chunks of the game are simply not fun and I found myself constantly forcing myself to play it for the sake of it rather than for the fun of it. Would recommend picking it up in a sale.

An Enjoyable continuation of the series.

Let's get the basics out of the way: - This game is NOT Dark Souls, it has a few similar systems but has none of the core gameplay elements of the Souls games. - It has a few bugs but they are not game braking (as far as i know) The game is an enjoyable action adventure that takes the series into a new direction. It drops the Zelda style (though environmental puzzles are still present) and goes for a more metroidvania gameplay loop. You have your base set in a giant tree where you can upgrade your equipment. from there you have branching paths that lead to bosses that drop new gear which unlocks the way to new areas and secret rooms with treasures. Gone are the loot drops from D2. We have set weapons taken from bosses that can be upgraded and enhanced with artifacts similar to D1. If anything the game gives me Soul Reaver vibes rather than Dark Souls. So unless you are not into that kind of games I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Смешанные чувства

Если честно, ощущения смешанные. Darksiders 3 заинтересовала меня ещё с лета, поэтому я очень хотел её купить. Средняя оценка на Метакритике - 7.7, моя личная оценка приблизительно между 6,9 и 8. Из минусов я бы отметил: Тормоза. Да, на ПК они иногда есть, но в основном игра идёт нормально. Проблемы с боевой системой: она полностью завязана на "уклонись и вмажь противнику мощной магической атакой", но то ли я такой слоупок, то ли тайминги для уклонения слишком маленькие. Моё мнение - надо хотя бы для самой низкой сложности расширить тайминги уклонения и дать больше возможностей для контрударов. И да, даже если вы уклонились, некоторые враги всё равно могут вас достать. И это бесит, даже не так: ЭТО ПРОСТО ЖЕСТЬ КАК СИЛЬНО РАЗДРАЖАЕТ. И вторая проблема: прыжки с хыстом-тарзанкой. Оче-е-ень сильно бесит то, что приходится хорошо прицеливаться, иначе упадёшь в пропасть (сразу это не убьёт, но всё равно очень неприятно). Да, можно сказать что-то вроде "это тебе не современная казуальщина, это ХАРДКОР" (так вообще можно предложить одну жизнь на всю игру: умер - начинай всё заново), но одно дело противник, которого не убьёшь простым закликиванием, и совсем другое - падать в пропасть из-за чуток неправильного направления. Туда же то, что ГГ не цепляется периодически за уступы из-за чуток не того направления взгляда. Доволен ли игрой? Не могу сказать, что выкинул деньги зря, но я могу играть в неё два-три часа в день, не больше. Я могу понять как тех, кто поставил игре 1 балл, так и тех, кто поставил 5. Посоветовал ли бы игру другу? Ну, если он лютый хардкорщик, то да, однозначно. Остальным же не уверен, предложу разве что самим поиграть и оценить.

Not perfect, but fun.

I had no expectations about this game, neither bad nor good. I just sat and started playing. Gameplay is reasonably fast paced, makes you think and not just rush in (getting swarmed is a sure way to respawn). bosses are fun, the lack of variety of weapon/armor compared to Darksiders 2 is a bit sad, but on the other hand it's compensated by the variety of skills and capacity to mix combos. Devs did implement the leveling an gear progression that is kinda soulslike, but not as deep, which puzzles me to no end - why did they go half-way? Graphics are pretty good - nothing to write home about, but nothing to be ashamed of either, the optimization is good, artstyle is great imho. Music is good enough, voice acting is great. I gave the game 5 stars not because it's perfect or anything like that, but because I'm having fun while playing it. I've gotten my money's worth from it. Hope it sells and they make another one.
