After figuring out the strange level design it makes some fun but if you once played threw you dont have to touch this game once again. Dread Templar or Prodous is way better in my opinion. Even the mor modern Phantom Fury makes still more fun anyway.
And jes the save system is awful. The original Quake save system is old but better than anything else since today.
This was Nostalgic and Refreshing to play. I understand that the title is still in development, but I can already see and feel the love that was put into Wrath.
The game really layers on classic 90's shooters thick, that leaves you wanting more. It's definitely worth the purchase to see where this game goes next.
... but it lacks the quality of technical implementation.g Yes, it's modified Quake engine which supposed to be over-polished after 20+ years but... None the less there's constant fps drops (from 160 to 110, not so much, but) which leads to accidental 720 degree rotation. I realy don't get how it's possible in 2019. None of Quake ports has such lacks, nor even Quake original DOS version under Win7/8/10.
Also, maybe because of that glitch, maybe regardless of it, but Executioner hits you no matter what, and it feels like before even reaching you. And if such mechanics are introduced into the game intentionally, then I begin to doubt the quality of the final result.
I hope game would be polished of such lacks after all. Such problems spoil the impression very much, because everything else - maps, monsters, weapons, sound, atmosphere, etc. - beyond praise. Very frustrating to see such gorgeous work of desingers alongside with poor technical implementation.
PS: mouse acceleration off, vertical sync off, double checked, windows, game, drivers, etc. Couldn't find what cause the problem, couldn't fix it.
Pros:
1) very cool rework of the engine, physics feels great and lively. This take on particles system playing 'retro' is very cool. Just very right proportion of modern flicks with old-school basics.
2) Sound design is flawless, guns and monsters and and music and ambient and everything - all sounds very catchy and atmospheric
3) Levels design is beautiful, arenas are great for fighting in both open spaces and close quarters.
Cons:
1) freaking AI. Honestly, even in Doom 30 ears ago monsters were more clever. I mean come on, this is just embarrassing! Most of the time they just stand still and fire at you or trying to get to you and stuck at the corner or some minor obstacle. This pretty much ruins the gameplay, especially in close encounters.
2) Poor balance. Even at 'difficult' level - it is still only 'hard' in the very beginning. Once you get past first 15 minutes, you practically never even close to running out of ammo or health pick-ups. Artifacts just lie around for no reason, you can do just fine without them. And once again - due to monsters being slow as snails, it all becomes pretty irritating. Ion Maiden from same team feels much more thrilling and exiting.
If that was a full release, I would only give it 3 stars tops. But of course due to it being a very early version, I truly believe developers will have enough time to fix the dynamics, cause this thing has imense potential! I won't even be upset to wait for 2 more years just to see this thing done right, cause given the Dusk and Amid Evil at the market, the bar is pretty high!
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
