Good game as long as you're not heretic
Overall The game is now in a pretty good state after many patches, and I would recommend it for CRPG and/or 40K fans—as long as you want to play as Iconoclast, Dogmatic, or something in between. Story-wise Both Iconoclast and Dogmatic paths are well written and have their moments to shine. Being in between is fine too, though it will, of course, lock you out of some dialogue options—but that’s to be expected. Combat-wise The game isn’t hard even on higher difficulties if you have a basic understanding of the mechanics and feats. There are many potential builds, so most players will likely find something that fits their style. Once you figure everything out, you’ll probably be able to solo entire encounters with a single character. While the combat can be enjoyable overall, the game suffers from having many “trash” encounters that aren’t difficult or meaningful and just end up wasting your time. Gameplay-wise There are no inventory limits, and you can travel in any order you want. Aside from the prologue and one mission, the game doesn’t have any time-based quests. Not much else to say that hasn’t already been mentioned before. Heretic The worst for last. While Dogmatic and Iconoclast routes are properly built and have their moments, it’s hard to say the same for Heretic-focused runs. Your character doesn’t slowly fall into corruption or try to hide it—if anything, you’re openly a full-blown heretic from the prologue, and it’s surprising you aren’t executed for it. You may have your moments, but unless you’re a psyker, there really aren’t any meaningful rewards for being a heretic. If anything, going heretic comes with the biggest downside: you can lose an entire planet simply because the game never even mentions that you can obtain it. This leaves you with rewards that are mediocre at best and absolutely not worth losing a whole planet over. Additionally, toward the endgame you lose some companions due to being a heretic, and in exchange you get… two characters who aren’t even properly voiced like the others, have mediocre gear, and come with skill trees that are mostly locked and can’t be rebuilt. So aside from RP value, you really have no reason to include them in your party.
