Well, I have a laptop. :-(
I just tried going through my hdmi speakers and it was still a no go. It crashed even quicker. Windows 1903 and 1909 are the ones with the problems. Microsoft changed the way a program could connect to the audio drivers/files. Kalypso either has to rewrite that or Microsoft has to issue a fix.

If you search about the ddl unload problems, this is not the first time Microsoft has caused this problem. They fixed it quicker back then because it was one of their own games that no longer worked.
Okay guys this sucks. I downloaded T5 and encountered this error. They shouldn't be selling the game on GOG until this is fixed. What a waste of my time. If I'm lucky I'll buy a ps4 and use the Tropico license on that, because it's on my Sony account, I just don't have a ps4 lol.

Maybe at some stage I'll get T6 but I wanted to play T5 since I already own it and don't need a new graphics card for T5.
Update: Still not working...
Game broken?

still broken
Since the issue seems to be related to the Realtek audio driver I was able to get the game running by disabling the audio device. Not an ideal solution since the music is part of the fun of Tropico, but it's better than not being able to run the game at all.
Right also adding my voice to the Tropico 5 doesn't work anymore pile. Crashes about 60 seconds after the game is launched.

Spent quite some time trying to fix it trying all the solutions, except turning off all the sound by removing that DLL, that just won't do it for me, the sound is to big a part of the Tropico experience for me.

Waited patiently for a patch, but nothing seems to be forthcoming. Just to make a point, albeit it might not make much impact, if this is not fixed I'll not buy Tropico 6, which is already taking its sweet time (Tropico style ;) coming to GoG, so no need to work to get it to GoG for me anymore.
I own a Steam version of Tropico 5, and its not working like this one so its not just CDP fault.
But still its iritating that they sell a game that doesnt work.

Maybe they should put a disclaimer, will not work on Windows 10 build 1903 and beyond

That might be a good idea. Otherwise you get unhappy customers.

Wrote Kalypso support about it and they wrote back that they are in contact with Microsoft about the issue. Still it has proven to be a hard bug to fix and they can not give a timeframe.

I wonder or this hits more software. Otherwise it is sadly not a weird thing that we're somewhat down the line considering the big issues Microsoft had to fix with crypt32.

Hope we will get to rule again soon though. El Presidente is missing his loyal and enthusiastic subjects.

If that's what they told you, they've been dishonest with you.

Hard bugs to fix are intermittent bugs; ones that take lots of repetition and diligence to catch. This one is constant, repeatable and predictable. Proper debugging software will indicate exactly where the system is hanging. It's exactly not rocket science and it certainly shouldn't take competent developers months to find and fix it.

My blind guess is that those with the source and skills are not available to the companies involved and may never be.
It is definitely something on MicroSofts end. They changed the way that software can connect to drivers. MS needs to fix the interface or Kalypso will have to completely recompile the exe with a different sound driver hook.
Hi EvryOne,

I am a bit a rookie ...

Now it's understood that T5 won't work before a while.
But reading up, I see that some of you could launch successfully the game by removing dll.
I've tried it but I could not launch the game at all without this file.

Could you help me on it?

Rgds.

I'd like to update the thread; I own the full game on both GoG and Steam. The GoG version, for me, has the same failure that everyone else is having here. The Steam version, OTOH, works perfectly. At some point Kalypso updated the game, but only on steam.

Screw Kalypso.
