Same problem here but managed to fix it.

First off i just upgraded to windows 10 which i think was the main cause of the game not working, you might be in the same boat and this might work for you too.

I did not have to uninstall GOG or anything, fist go into your witcher 3 folder and go to "bin" then "x64" there you will find the "witcher 3" application, double click this and if you have the same problem as me an error will come up saying your missing a dll file. In my case it was MSVCR110.Dll, when you update your divx it should automatically download but in my case it didn't which is what was causing the play button to run nothing. From here type "witcher 3 missing msvcr110.dll" in your browser and a youtube video should show up which you can follow to fix your divx.

Hope this helps!
I've intermittently had this problem (gotten worse as the patch level increased), but so bad now I can't even launch the game.

I recently did a complete removal of TW3 and GOG Galaxy, re-downloaded and re-installed TW3 (without Galaxy), and still the same problem.

Worked perfectly fine on release. Now I can't even play it. This is infuriating.

I'm currently on patch 1.08.4. Patch 1.10 broke the game for me to an astounding degree so I reverted. I was able to launch the game until I rebooted my PC. Haven't been able to launch it since no matter what I've done.

I launch the game, wicher3.exe start and inflates memory up to ~189,000KB, then drops back down to ~169,000KB and sits there.

Still having issues.
it is infuriating that I still cant get this game to play. tried tall the suggestions here .... zilch. installed it twice...nothing aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhh
Ok this wrecked my head but i found a solution which might work for someone here hopefully. Sorry if this has been posted already.

In your witcher 3 folder go to __redist then into MSVC2012_x64 and click on vcredist_x64. then click either instal or repair depending on what option you're given.

Goodluck
I didn't play Witcher 3 for a few months (waiting for patches and busy with other games.) Came back to it yesterday, and it wouldn't launch at all. I came here hoping to resolve my issue using the suggestions in this thread, since it sounded similar to my problem, but non worked. I uninstalled galaxy, rolled back drivers, and reinstalled the game.

The fix that worked for me was unticking the option "game overlay" on the "configure" section, under "Dlc's installed" area of Gog Galaxy. I don't remember that option being there before I went on hiatus, so I tried turning that off, and sure enough the game worked with no problems. Just to be sure that was indeed the problem, I checked it again, and the game stopped running again. Not sure why that prevents the game from starting, but that worked for me. Is the game overlay even functional yet? I haven't even heard anything about it. Seems strange that there is an option to select it now.
Just had the same problem with the game not starting after some time of not playing it. Thanks for pointing out the game overlay thing, unchecking it worked for me as well

Your welcome. =) Glad I was able to help someone.
thank you i had the same problem and that just fixed it for me as well
How do i get my money back. I just bought it today, doesn't work. tried all the work around here in this thread. I've never had a single issue with a steam game in years. I work on PCs and software for a living and this is my first time buying anything through GMG. Complete and utter garbage.

No, what I proved is that nobody can do a damned thing for you (or me) with the complete lack of information provided. Wake up!
