It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

gogusar: You should feel lucky that it doesn't start for you. Because for me it starts and I complete quests without getting any rewards.
This could be the XP bug which shall be fixed in the next Update the next days.

man... this is fraustrating... I've tried to repair, delete .dll, reinstall the whole game, just my luck, nothing works for me... which it took me 6+ hours on nothing...

Better get back ta bed, it might magically repaired itself tmr.
Well I'm thinking the same. This game is not working for me anymore. Gonna try again when it gets some major updates. It worked with no problems until now it won't start.

All drivers etc. are latest version and repairs and reinstalls tried.

I have played these since Witcher 1 came out. Never seen this kind of product that won't work at all and not reporting even an error. Used whole day to solve this with zero results.

Same with me the game just flashes to black. I tried everything but nothing happens. Could Gog fix this or smth?
Same problem as well... was playing till 1am last night, go to bed, wake up and try to play, no dice. A quick flicker of a black screen and it's gone. I've tried literally everything I see on the internet regarding it, and this thread, short of reinstalling the game (my internets sucks, that's like 2 full days of downloading). Pretty sure that's not gonna fix this anyway, since I've verified files, reinstalled galaxy (at least that's small), repaired through the vcredist.exe, deleted those .dll (how any one concluded that would work is a mystery to me), still nothing. Pretty damn frustrating.

Windows 7 64bit, AMD Phenom II X4 3.4GHz, GTX 970 (which I purchased for this damn game), 8gigs of RAM

only about a dozen hours in, just started sunday....
Got a heads up for the future.. Always use trusted programs like Steam where you dont have to fight for the game to actually work.. but well.

Doesn't make a difference, it's the game, not the overlay.

No one over there knows. And it's not like Steam makes patches, or offers customer support. Thanks for the uhh... advice,,,, though....
I had the day off yesterday and wasn't able to run the game for over half that day thanks to this shizzle. I reinstalled GOG Galaxy and even redownloaded the whole game again. And just now I got it working by deleting those 2 DLL files as suggested in the thread.
Thanks!

Weird that I wasn't able to find any support for this problem over at the official Witcher 3 forum.
I was launching the game through Steam, to enable screenshots, and could not do so today. Deleting the .dlls as suggested above did help, and now I can start the game with the overlay.

Thanks for the help!
Ya, I've noticed this happens only when running through steam.
Super weird. It's not even the overlay like you'd think. Turning off the overlay doesn't change it.
I've been running it through Galaxy (I got the game through a GOG code from NVIDIA- I guess I lucked out).

But ya. It's a really weird bug.
Still it doesnt launch. Deleting those 2 dlls isnt helping - same thing. When I delete only dxdi I get crah log with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (3221225477), Error writing location 0x00000000.

Everything was wroking fine (over 30h in gamge) till this update. Can any1 help?
Hi guys and girls

First of all excuse my english I'm a not native speaker.

I have the same problem. I've been playing since the game's launching date without any issue, but yesterday when I tried to start from GOG the game crashes and nothing happens (only happens a few moments of black screen and the icon appears suddenly in the taskbar but then it returns to the desktop and the GOG window and stay closed) I CAN'T RUN THE GAME.

I've tried all the things that GOG says in the support thread as you said in this forum but nothing. Even I've tried to reinstall the game and I'm in the same point, also I removed from the computer the Nvidia Experience. The most strange thing is that I've been playing before!

I also want to ask one thing: someone can tell me how can I start the game in borderless/fullscreen mode from GOG and without enter in the game?

Thanks a lot, I'm bit worried.

In your Documents folder in the Witcher 3 subfolder (Documents\The Witcher 3\ on English Windows) is a file named user.settings.

Open it, edit FullScreenMode variable.
0 = Windowed.
1 = Borderless Windowed
2 = Fullscreen
For others with problem.
I uninstalled witcher 3 and gog galaxy. Installed the game once again (with my save folder copied) and then just downloaded all patches and 4 dlc (without the new ones) manually form gog.com. Installed all and the game works by launching it from game folder. I stopped using galaxy.

Thx for help gog. NOT :/
Ok guys, this is kind of useless, but thought I'd report back.

I continued trying various things after my post yesterday. Discovered my video card drivers weren't up to date after all (D'oh!), updated them, no fix.
Downloaded the latest microsoft .NET framework, as several mentioned it was necessary for the game. No fix.
Uninstalled galaxy, ran cmd.exe to delete excess galaxy stuff, I think it was suggest in another thread to type sc delete galaxycommunication and sc delete galaxyclientservice (I'm not sure that's exact, never done that on a game service before) No fix.
I deleted those .dll files multiple times - if you verify your files it will replace them. No fix, regardless of gone, replaced, gone again, etc.
During all this I restarted my computer several times, and uninstalled and reinstalled galaxy several times. No fix.

So eventually I decided I would download the backup copy of the game, uninstall everything, and then just install the back up copy of the game without galaxy, see if I get a fix there. This will take several days, so I left the game installed for now while I download, incase the 1.5 patch releases and maybe fixes things. I wake up this morning to start the download while I'm at work, and for some reason decided to start the game again. And it FRIGGING RUNS. I have no idea why, but it seems like waiting just made it fix itself. It makes no sense, but it seems like just waiting it out fixed it... and I can't think of an explanation why. It seemed like the Galaxy update yesterday broke things, but there was no further update today. I really just can't explain it, but I'm glad it's working again....
