It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

SystemShock7: After trying multiple times to import-export dds (texture, normal map, defuse map) files into xbm with quickbms, it either doesn't work, or I am missing a step not listed in the instructions. I am getting all sorts of weirdess in-game. Any file I replace makes the in game model look like it is covered with a texture of tiny gold and black squares.

Kaorinazuki: Sorry I can't help you. I can change normal texture but not the specular one.
Would you be so kind as to explain a couple of things?
Are you using Photoshop or GIMP?
After you edit the dds file, when you go save it in the image editing software, what settings are you using? Are you just choosing the default settings?
ddsx1 for regular textures

x5 for alpha enabled textures, normal and specular maps.
Love this mod. Geralt looks as he should now.

I'm using photoshop cs5 with dds plug ins.
For the normal map use DXT1 generate mipmaps if it needs.
if you have any alpha channel use DXT5 and save as DXT5 ARGB 8 bpp | interpolated alpha.
if you need more details you can go here and my nickname in this forum is Kiori.

Have a nice day.

Hope it could help any modder.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the help, but no matter what I try in GIMP, either the nVidia plugin in cs5 does something special to the file, or the bms converter doesn't export the DDS correctly after being edited in GIMP. Or I just haven't hit the right combination yet :)

On a side note, I don't get why use an X11 format.. especially with nothing on X11 can open the .xbm files :)

To put the proverbial cherry on top, I went to the Adobe site to see if I could download a trial version of cs5, and add the nVidia plugin just to see exactly what's happening to the DDS, but I get a "corrupt download" straight from the Adobe site... guess I won't be modding Witcher ...

Thanks again for your help.
The file is updated to work with all the new hairstyles.

Got a solution for you since it worked for me, open w2_dds2xbm.bms with notepad++ and scroll down to the bottom you should see string name += .xbm. Now all you do is remove the = sign from it and get "string name + .xbm" hopefully, this will solve your problem since it solved mine :)

styx31989: I made a post explaining my situation over there. Hopefully someone will be able to help.

trenzn0r: I'm on Vista 32 bit, running with Administrator, and using the corresponding 32 bit Quickbms. I edited the dds directly with Gimp and then close Gimp and made sure no program uses the dds. I'm sure I'm loading the correct packing script and I select only the dds but it still gives the error.

Wat do?

I don't know which one I used, but Gerault now looks pretty much as he did in 1. Kudos from this quarter.

I jump onto the "Gee, you did this just right!" pile!

I can live with dice I cant read. I can live without the weight changing mod, if I have to. Thank You AudreyWinter-- I can't play without the white hair.
