I guess it's only fitting to put this in here: https://soundcloud.com/laserschwert/sets/tie

I like the original MIDI-version just as much, but always wanted an "orchestral" version, so I made one myself.

Hats off to you sir. This is easily one of the most awesome conversions to midi music. Thank you.
This is magnificent! You are a god among men.

The concourse music alone is so nostalgic and great compared to that weak 1998 re-release version of beeps and background noise.
Thanks guys! I've added download links to the opening post.
Hats off to you sir. I'd echo the hope that we could download this version somewhere ... say like from GOG.

MUCH appreciated. bitte. bitte. wunderbar, and all that :)
*tips hat* Danke.

Damn this is so much better than the tacked on CD audio. iMuse was a great system and the composers did a great job of making a triumphant soundtrack for the Imperials.
Some of the finest MIDIs ever. This is an excellent reorchestration.
These are awesome! Just imagine if we could have this soundtrack imported to the iMuse engine on the '95 version with greater resolution...
i'm thinking that with a little elbow grease (and perhaps some headlight fluid?) we could get this to work in-game on the 98/WIndows version. I'll have a go at figuring out the filenames to match them with the WAVs in MUSIC directory, unless someone else has beat me to it...

It's a great idea but the main issues with this are:

1. I don't think all of the music is there to replace, I can't find one that pertains to the registration area for example but I could be wrong.

2. The sound format is rather annoying to convert to, it has to be a specific 8bit 11024khz mono wav format that comes out at 88kbps and all the ways I've tried to convert it so far have made it sound like crap and still not let it play in game. I don't know the specifics of the format though so I'm kind of shooting in the dark.

Good point. I will try to fiddle with it a little.

I dropped the "reconstructed" music files in, and they work great. they were able to make it sound good, so it's POSSIBLE. if i cannot get it to work, perhaps i will contact them to find out what settings they used.

[you can find links to the "Reorchestrated" music files midway down the page here: http://www.savingcontent.com/2014/08/09/guide-play-x-wing-tie-fighter-series-on-windows-7-windows-8-windows-8-1-with-an-xbox-xb1-playstation-ps4-controller-flight-stick/7/

you can ignore the instructions, because we're not dealing with CDs anynmore... just burn or mount the ISO and copy the VOICE and MUSIC folders over your gog installation]

I think the main problem with my files is that they don't loop. A lot of the tracks are supposed to be looped in the game, but for the sake of creating something like a "soundtrack album", I added appropriate endings for those tracks.

Just to clear things up, the reorchestrated files from the "TIE Fighter Reconstructed" project were created by Daniel ‘Yitzchak’ Bennett and are different from mine.

Deserves a "sticky" I think. :)
