Is there Widescreen-Support in this version or is it like retail 4:3/5:4 only?

Let me clarify a bit: Is there widescreen support...for the briefings?

The retail version can easily be stretched to widescreen by editing the registry and it looks perfect for most parts of the game, most importantly the battles of course.

But when a briefing is shown, arrows and textboxes don't light up correctly with the background universe, showing wrong coordinates or are cut off at the edges of the screen.

If this was fixed in the GOG version I'd buy in a heartbeat! :)

Completely agree. I have the game on Steam, and yes you can play it in widescreen, and it actually looks terrific still. However the briefings gets screwed up when you change res in registry, and that is a bummer, because the briefings are actually really really nice.

If it is not fixed, i feel like GOG is becoming more and more a digital distribution platform rather than a restorative digital distribution platform. Fix games and then release them.

Really hoping for this. Game is on my wishlist, but will not buy unless i know if this is fixed.

GOG's making old games work as they were on modern system, they don't actually add anything new to them, ever. Even if it's new, custom resolution.

Anyway, someone on Steam boards have made a handy tool for widescreen, I think it'll work on GOG version as well

That's kind of the feeling I sometimes get (because it isn't part of their "core values"). BUT Fenixp is right! They don't add anything new, as long as the game plays pretty much like it originally did. (Very rarely will they add fanmade patches, unless it fixes serious crashes or something similar.)
Yeah i get that they don't, but then again if they tune games to work in various environments such as Win7, it would not be that much more to ensure a custom resolution, it is not "adding" something to the game, as the game already plays quite well in high resolution.

It is only the briefings that are a problem, i imagine you could do some kind of trick that would scale resolution up and down whether it was gameplay or briefing...

Anyways, this is an awesome game, but as i said i got it on Steam soooo. :-)

The difference to old games is, that Nexus TJI still works fine under WinVista/7, only the widescreen support is a question cause normaly it is 4:3 or 5:4, and at the Briefings it sucks if you got a 16:9 or 16:10 Display.
Okay...

I think it is kinda weird that everybody goes into defensive mode over GOG. I am not blaming, accusing or even slandering in any way.

All i am saying is that it would be awesome if they would fix that, as i am sure they have the capability. Nobody agrees with that statement?

It is okay if you guys think that they shouldn't, but don't go talking about why they shouldn't, because those reasons might be their company guidelines, because who is to say that those guidelines are perfect?

If you guys on the other hand think that it would be cool if they did, then say so, and stop arguing for why they shouldn't. This game would be so much better if that issue was fixed, and it is an issue.

Don't take this the wrong way, i am not trying to start a flame war or anything like that.
BTW, here's a widescreen patch so you don't have to edit the registry:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2211822

It does NOT fix the wrongly alligned briefings, but it adds widescreen solutions and fixes the FOV (field of view). :)

I get an error saying the patch is unable to find part of the path: "[...] nexus - The Jupiter Incident\Universe\Engine\rendering.ini".

Any ideas how to get around this?

Try to create this file yourself and put this text into it:

RENDERING
FOV 90 45 46.826
Inscriptions

ShotFormat tif

EmvPath "q:\movies\emv\"

There's also a small guide here:

Actually, that's not entirely true. While I have read elsewhere about them having a policy of only official patches, they have found a few loopholes. I haven't gone through the entire catalog, but GOG does use the NewDark unofficial patch 2.42 on System Shock 2. The installer for the game is pre-patched. If you look in the GOG forums, you can find people asking for this on other games.

Here is a wishlist item to include unofficial patches in more games:

Here is a wishlist item to include patches to include more resolutions for older games:

Anachronox also includes unofficial fan patches: patch 1.02 builds 44, 45 & 46.

I've also made that post 2 years ago :-P

I guess it helps to remember to look at the dates. Well, at least the info is there in case someone else reads this thread.
Can we expect GOG to patch this in the game in the future? I'd like to be able to change the resolution as well.
